Update 2

Christie Blatchford: Ignatieff Cries "E Tu Brute!" -- "In a last-minute blow to high-profile Liberal candidate Michael Ignatieff, the president of the party’s riding association in Etobicoke-Lakeshore swung his support today to Conservative rival John Capobianco in Monday’s federal election." Gemini, 1/20/2006 16:23:39 -- from the G & M

The tribe has spoken on the parachuting in of "star" candidates and on control from the PM/PMO. So much for the "new Trudeau" to replace the plotter. Why bother working for your local riding association if the PM may ignore your wishes and parachute a star in?

Trying to bring up something that would frighten people, CBC Newsworld has been in panic mode today (IMHO), desperately reminding people how scary Conservatives are. Love it! What entitled planet do these spokesmen for the Liberal government inhabit? Funny, some people even like Conservatives and keep in touch. We're almost human. CBC should meet a few.

I had links, along with other items typed here, but lost my connection and everything went poof. It happens regularly with touchy posts in trying to send posts from the Maritimes -- strange. Last night it took five tries to post "OneWorld, Maurice Strong, UNESCO & The Global Governance Gang". There may be something worth reading there.

Update 1:

Stephen Taylor is justifiably bothered for a number of reasons - Did CBC take credit for bloggers' work? CBCWatch.ca , Jan. 19, 06.

In addition to blogger Stephen Taylor being justifiably bothered by the allegations of election violations made against a simple aggregator for conservative Canadian bloggers, he exposes CBC’s exclusive on ITSCAM (aka the Goodale income trust scandal) as being lifted from investigative work revealed on blogs like his own. He states:

"We broke the income trust scandal on our blogs and were aghast when the CBC gave a summary view of the story and called it an exclusive." ....

The Shotgun has an update on this story I posted yesterday: Call for probe into Tory blogs -- Blogging Tories -- via NealeNews Allan Woods, CanWest, Jan. 18, 06. Very interesting.

CBC Newsworld:

Don Newman and Julie Van Dusen
, along with others are attempting to create doubt in anyone who would vote Conservative. Apparently, the story is going the rounds that the poll results are going down but Captain's Quarters has a post on the Globe and Mail poll which is worth reading. Could a newspaper get or overstate the percentage difference between the Conservatives and Liberals, then have to adjust downward later, use or create an error to help produce a negative spin? I'm cynical, of course.

G&M Playing With Polls?

http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt/

Watch for what is called "news" by CBC types as they bring up topics to create doubt in anyone who might vote Conservative: on abortion and "a woman's right to choose", same sex marriage (31 Liberals voted against it.) "spin from Conservatives" (never from Liberals?), and the totally impartial justices and the court system.

Actually, Stephen Harper has said a Conservative government has NOT any plans for abortion and are not re-opening that debate. Don Newman has again had to shut Susan Murray off for she kept babbling. I have heard this happen twice. (Update: Corrected; I had written Martin instead of Newman. Sorry)

Ed Broadbent has made a blistering attack on the Paul Martin Liberals and he was magnificent in his outrage.
Susan Murray is offended by Broadbent's statements ... if anybody givea a hoot! Oh, yes, Susan and the Liberals are going after "progressive" voters. What the heck are progressives, anyway, Susan? Or is a case of Liberals claiming they represent Canadian values?

To each of us progressive ideas mean something different. I have a family which has considered me to be much too progressive for a woman; yet writers tell me occasionally that I am a red neck, the equivalent of an inbred idiot from the boonies. I am probably, like most Canadians, somewhere between left and right.

Define your terms, folks.

News: Paul Martin will be coming to Fredericton to bolster Andy Scott ... if that is considered to be help

The latest unofficial call-in poll from a local radio station:

Pat Lynch Conservative: 47%

Andy Scott Liberal: 38%

John Carty NDP: 16% [I hope I have that first name correct.]

Frechette kept some information about oil-for-food from reaching the ears or eyes of anyone who might have taken action above her in the pecking order, did she not? She resigned from the UN and now, she has some kind of sinecure via Paul Martin's government in south-western Ontario, Waterloo area, I think. "Peace" might also be involved. Latest Liberal attack! ... How low can they go?

During the debate show, a caller called in and accused Conservative Candidate Maurice Vellacott of sexual assault on a church secretary. Vellacott immediately asked for the name and number of the caller for legal action and they had an idea of who this person was. I didn't catch the name, but it was in the news brief. When they ran a reverse lookup of the number, they came up with the Liberal campaign headquarters of Chris Axworthy.[riding of Saskatoon-Wanuskewin] from OfficiallyScrewed.com via Andrew Coyne, Angry in the Great White North, CNEWS Forum's casper34, Jan. 19, 06

Judicial impartiality with Joe Comartin and Deborah Coyne

All Canadians express a desire for is representation, not top-down control -- that our elected representatives in Parliament have the opportunity to make input into appointments. That's called democracy ... You know, the guys we vote in to represent our views should have some input to make, should they not? Is it better to have the PM/PMO and the coterie surrounding the PM--think Earnscliffe, Scott Reid--make all the long-term and important appointee decisions?

I listened (I forget what channel on television, possibly CBC) to constitutional lawyer Deborah Coyne (Pierre Trudeau's baby momma) and NDP lawyer Joe Comartin discuss the suggestion that the justices appointed by Liberals (There might even be the odd one left over from Mulroney's era) are human and might lean slightly left. Coyne gave no quarter; Liberal appointments could be improved, perhaps, but after the process, justices are impartial.

Stop treating us as dunderheads! As a non-lawyer, I find such even-handed perfection in anyone hard to credit ... including in myself.

As Joe Comartin said, lawyers with other than Liberal connections don't even bother to apply for judicial positions. They KNOW that it is pointless. He did suggest that, once appointed, justices are impartial and I will concede that perhaps they try. But that they succeed all the time? No.

Yet, Deborah Coyne expressed what appeared to be outrage--or it suited her political purpose to show such--that anyone would even mention, through stating a fact about the courts (in particular, that Stephen Harper would even suggest that), most SCOC justices have been appointed by Liberal Prime Ministers, there might be a leftward lean to the court. Seven out of eight Supremes are Liberal appointees.

When did these judicial human beings move beyond the realm of human? We are all influenced by our background and philosophy, whether we know and admit it or not. Justices, as humans, must have this human propensity. Therefore, they cannot be as impartial as Coyne would have us believe, strive though they might.

One example that has the appearance of questionable partiality to me, is the following, since Supremes do not deign to stoop so low as to explain their reasoning:

Supreme Court At It Again

OTTAWA (CP) - The Supreme Court of Canada has refused to hear an appeal by whistleblower Margaret Haydon for her five-day suspension from Health Canada in 2002.

Haydon, who has since been fired along with two other Health Canada scientists, was suspended for saying a federal ban on Brazilian beef had more to do with trade politics than health.

[. . . . ] The Supreme Court announced today that it would not hear her appeal, without giving its reasons as is customary for the high court.

Why not? She has lost her career, as have others. How is this decided by these "impartial" justices? Should Haydon and the people who pay the Supremes salaries not be given some indication why? In an election period ...

If the ones who signed the UN Kyoto Accord, can just win this election, think of the possibilities. Think of Maurice Strong and the One World Global Governance Gang; we may have UN/UNESCO control over the free flow of information. The internet, everyone's information sources, including Canadians' information, will be global and more severely curtailed by the individual nations ....... The Third World wants to present its logic, its reasoning. UNESCO will make certain you know you owe ...... What has been a free flow of information with the internet, what we have right now, impedes these messages which will give weight to views emanating from some fairly skewed logic and you will pay. Think respect, no matter how audacious the statements or the demands. You belong to the world. Celebrate. Prepare not to resist. Curb your speech. You might commit a hate crime.

Think of the flow of information coming out of countries which are not free. It will be treated as respected information. Think of what will emanate from the Palestinian Territories, Saudi Arabia, and a few more nations with similar freedoms. Your children will be able to access this OneWorld, culturally diverse "information" ... for research, for example. There is more to be said on this.

You thought the media this election was pro-Liberal? You haven't seen anything yet. Why, if Canadians are really fortunate, there may be Liberals / socialists / leftists in control forever. Think Tower of Babel and Control!

Globalization Passing Fad or Permanent Revolution?

Moisés Naím is Editor and Publisher of Foreign Policy. This piece is adapted from his collection of articles, The Surprises of Globalization.

[. . . . ] The tide of democracy that swept the world in the 1990s, the emergence of unbridled media, the proliferation of nongovernmental organizations with enormous financial and political resources, and the growth of international criminal and terrorist networks—all have helped erode the autonomy of governments. But the nation-state is not about to disappear. Indeed, governments continue to be central players. Also, the vast majority of people in the global community are yet to be empowered by the technological and political changes of the 1990s. Instead, they continue to live imprisoned by poverty, hunger, illness, and ignorance. [. . . . ]

With the PM & Team government/Big Brother's contribution to control and the Global Governance Gang and the internet (You know, achieving the maintenance of cultural diversity), where will this leave those living under oppressive regimes in, for example, Myanmar / Burma or China where certain words are not allowed to pass through the ether to Chinese citizens. Then there is Africa ... and what do you think the do-gooder gang with their control over the internet--for all those fine, politically correct reasons that will be enumerated--and their fine meetings will achieve? Someone will get the benefit of knowledge, of what freedom has allowed them to learn, and they will be in a position to exploit. Who will get the benefit of those minerals and oil and anything else? I'm betting it won't be the poor.

Watch for the language that will be used -- rather like the Communist world's use of free and People's Republic -- where the words actually mean strict control by a centralized government.

Who is Michael Ignatieff? Ambassador McKenna, Nackawic, the Have-Nots, Tony Valeri

A Must Read

Who is Michael Ignatieff? Judi McLeod, Jan19, 06

Meet Michael Ignatieff, the man some claim is the inevitable replacement for an outgoing Prime Minister Paul Martin. The departure of Martin is imminent because if Canadian voters don’t get him on Monday, frustrated Liberal powerbrokers will.

Ambassador McKenna, Nackawic, the Have-Nots

There are rumours that ex-NB Premier and present Liberal Ambassador to the US, Frank McKenna, who needed 60 + spin doctors to massage his messages and to keep NB Liberal -- McKenna who, it has been reported, has met with the approval of the power elite (led by PowerCorp Desmarais), may be considering a move back to Canada to work to become leader of the post-Paul Martin Liberals. The power brokers are sharpening their shivs, as we speak. As Premier, McKenna talked a good story ... mostly about business and the area got some call centers. He claimed great success. Check the results today. Purveyors of pork and ACOA / AIF grants still schmear enough pork fat to friends and supporters, with the odd bit thrown to the opposite party to pretend not to be buying Liberal support. Those who are greased with it still do better, but the great unwashed? Fuggetaboutit. Same old. Same old. Now there is talk about deals with China and bringing in immigrants who will be good for the economy. Sure ...

The stories about Nackawic pulp and paper mill being back in business under Tembec/Birla? Lads in the know say, it will be a long time, if ever, before any/many get jobs and they think it is simply an election ploy. By whom -- feds or provincial politicians? They did not say. Get the locals to calm down from protesting the way they were shafted by the last owners and lost their pensions, and then, life will take its usual course. There has been some pension deal worked out whereby the money available (made available by the provincial conservative government, I believe) will be spread over more ex-employees and this is leading to negative feeling since the ones who were to get their full pensions will be forced to share. At least, that is the story I was told but I have no link for verification. Those who were going to get nothing will get a little. As usual. Meanwhile, the plant was emptied out (by the previous owners, I assume) so it is no-where near ready to operate. Opinion is not optimistic.

Some compensate for little money and supplement their stores by going out on the land ... fish a little, hunt a little ... pick, preserve, freeze, and, in case a change would be even worse, vote for the same old BS. They have little choice of independent media thought, so it is difficult to have real political discussion of alternatives and any more than surface change. News that would really affect lives at 6pm, for example, is sparse and quickly moves to something like a school report or cute little kids singing ... family stuff but not what I call news. The Irvings have the papers sown up so ... certain items just don't get play or are glossed over -- sort of like a CBC news report of Liberal malfeasance; if they don't report it, it didn't happen or, to pretend they did report it, they'll slide over it somewhere and then present the wonders of Big Brother.

Jobs are too often tied to not making waves about real change. It is scary to those who have something; to those who have little, well, better not to lose it. "You'll never work in this town again" can be really true down East. Just cross the power brokers and certain powerful groups, speak the truth about what has been going on and ... guess what? Poverty leaves people open to powerbrokers and to exploitation. They have been indoctrinated to a certain extent ... believe Librano$ fear mongering and stories about how scary change would be.

Blogging Tories: Stephen Taylor responds
http://www.stephentaylor.ca/

Indeed, bloggers have broken countless news stories during this election. Weeks before Christmas, Steve Janke, Matt Braaten and I were digging through forensic financial data from the markets, receiving tips from concerned brokers and were tapping our contacts at the Western Standard, CTV, and the Globe and Mail for leads and information that was "too raw for primetime". We broke the income trust scandal on our blogs and were aghast when the CBC gave a summary view of the story and called it an exclusive. [duplicitous]

Other stories broken by bloggers during this election include the potential truth behind the international spat orchestrated by Paul Martin, Ralph Goodale's request for a sole-source contract for Earnscliffe, Ralph Goodale's faxscam, David Smith's Abotech affair, and Tony Valeri's land dealings among others. Why I will vote Liberal (tongue in cheek) -&- Globe's Endorsement

For people who are still unsure whether they want to support the Conservatives, here is something that might help persuade you.

Subject: Why I will vote liberal ...

• Because I believe in the extent to which the Official Languages Act is carried out and enforced; that every public servant even in the most remote part of B.C. should be fluent in the French language, but that government business in Quebec should be in unilingual French.

• Because I believe that only lawyers from the province of Quebec are qualified to be prime minister of Canada.

• Because I believe that the federal government should be completely controlled by the province of Quebec.

• Because I believe that all criminals are just poor misunderstood victims of society and can all be easily rehabilitated in a very short period of time; and that only they have "rights"; not the victims of their crimes.

• Because I believe that hardened criminals like Karla Homolka should be pampered by living in a "cottage" with her own key and be allowed to have pajama parties and go out on shopping trips; and that killers in prison "resorts" on the Pacific coast should eat filet mignon, have barbecues, go whale watching and have their own golf course, while our senior citizens have to eat left over Kraft Dinner.

• Because I believe that mass murderers under the age of 18 should be protected by the Young Offenders Act and the rest of us law-abiding citizens do not have the right to know who they are.

• Because I believe in bringing hundreds of thousands of unskilled people into Canada from third world countries every year so we can support them on welfare and so that they will vote Liberal; and that this number should be increased every year.

• Because I believe that it is fair that the province of Quebec is the sole province allowed to be in charge of its immigration policy; that they receive 5 times the amount of federal immigration money than [sic] does Ontario, even though Ontario has to teach those people how to speak English whereas Quebec only allows immigrants to enter who already know the French language.

• Because I believe that we do not have a right to own land in Canada, as this right is specifically left out of our constitution.

• Because I believe it is only fair that Liberals steal as much tax money as they can from us; through every conceivable means from the HRDC boondoggle to the 2 billion dollar gun registry that does not work.

• Because I believe that if my family is the victim of a home invasion I should not have the right to protect them in our own home.

• Because I believe in huge government bureaucracy and extremely high taxes, as I believe that the government knows how to spend my money better than I do.

• Because I believe in having essentially no military because everyone loves us and we will never be called upon to protect our country.

• Because Jack Layton is not a lawyer from Quebec so he is not qualified to be prime minister; besides, he smiles too much.

• Because Stephen Harper is not a lawyer from Quebec and he and the Conservative Party of Canada have a hidden agenda and they are very scary people.

• Because I believe that we should alienate our neighbours to the South because all Americans are morons and know nothing about Canada; and that we should continue to align ourselves more closely with our true friends, France, China and Russia.

• Because I believe everything that the Liberal controlled media tells me, especially the CBC.

• Because I believe that no one should ever be held responsible or accountable for their own actions in today's society. It is always someone else's fault.

• Because I believe that we should not expect newcomers to our country to accept or adapt to our culture and traditions and customs; and that we should not wish each other "Merry Christmas" in case it might be offensive to some.

• Because I have the IQ of a doorknob and am easily sucked in by Liberal scare tactics and propaganda; and am easily bought off with my own tax money.

Three reasons why it's time for a change G & M, Jan. 14, 06

The government of Canada, long of tooth and short of energy, is mired in policy gridlock. Hard choices give way to easy spending, and long-term thinking is overwhelmed by short-term calculation. [. . . . ]

2. Then there is this matter of the culture of entitlement that has taken deep root within the Liberal Party. [. . . . ]

3. Change is essential in a democracy. A perpetual lease on 24 Sussex Drive fuels the sense of entitlement that blurs the line between private gain and public good. [. . . . ]

Now, what was going on here? The Star leans toward the Liberals ... Is it a case of mustn't bite the hand that feeds us?

Memory Lane: Torstar Sale Of Surplus Land

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 12, 2005) - Torstar Corporation (TSX:TS.NV.B) announced today that it has signed an agreement to sell surplus land located at 7 Queen's Quay East in Toronto to the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation for a total consideration of $12.2 million. [. . . . ]

Let's see, now, there has been a scandal involving travel by the principals involved with the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation ... posted within the last two months on this site. I guess it is no wonder The Star supports the Liberals ... Better check further.

What is your response to this Liberal candidate?

Alghabra Liberal candidate -- "the fact that some alarming Islamist declarations were made in connection with Alghabra's victory." And the Star missed this even though it had a reporter present at the Dec. 1 event. Imagine, Gordon postulates, that a Conservative candidate in a similar spirit of celebration had called his win a "victory for Christianity" – how the Star would have been all over that!

[. . . . ] Ezra Levant gives five instances of Alghabra's Islamist-leaning record at the Western Standard's blog:

Alghabra has condemned CanWest newspapers for labelling groups like Hamas and Hizbollah "terrorist" groups;

Alghabra has welcomed al-Jazeera to Canada and railed against any restrictions on it, but condemned the CRTC for allowing the "abusive" Fox News Channel in;

In the wake of the Arab riots at Concordia that shut down a speech by former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Alghabra had the temerity to blame Jewish students for silencing campus discussions, and supported an Arab conference on campus whose stated mission was the elimination of Israel;

Backstabbing by United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan reached another low-water mark late last week, as Annan worked furiously to undo European and American efforts to bring Iran before the Security Council. Reminiscent of his 1998 comment after visiting Saddam Hussein, "I think I can do business with him," Annan told reporters on Thursday: "I had a 40-minute conversation with Mr. [Ali] Larijani, the Iranian negotiator of the nuclear issue. ...He in turn affirmed to me that they are interested in serious and constructive negotiations..." He later explained, "the negotiations relate to the EU3," Britain, France, and Germany.

[. . . . ] Joining Annan in lobbying hard to keep Iran away from the Council has been his sidekick Mohammed ElBaradei, the director general of the IAEA.

Because concerns about the legality of the special stations were first expressed by members of Liberal Tony Ianno's campaign, and not Elections Canada, canceling the campus stations may have had a clear political motivation. The Khadr family -- immigration

Scroll down for BCNU2 who summarizes the situation well.

Liberals, under Trudeau, essentiallly opened up our doors to immigrants from all corners of the globe.

The "official" reason given? [. . . . ]

The real reason is because Trudeau, that sorcerer's apprentice himself, wanted to smash the power of English Canada, and he has definitely done that, with his successive accomplices in the federal government. A side benefit of this plan is that immigrants generally continue to vote for the party that allowed them to come here: the Libs.

So the circle is complete: Libs bring in tons of immigrants, more than can be assimilated, they vote Liberal. Liberals stay in power, and bring in more immigrants. More immigrants vote in more Liberals, Liberals maintain power.
And so on. [. . . . ]

From Sensforever: "Elinor Caplan Fiberal Immigration Minister from Scarborough and her husband was an immigration lawyer"

Would that not have been a rather obvious conflict of interest for a Minister of Immigration? The CSL Barbados situation never stopped Finance Minister at the time, Paul Martin, so I suppose, it was not even a consideration for Liberals.

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE IN CANADA

[. . . . ] The Canadian nation has always prided itself on tolerance. The mean-spirited intolerance that animates Canada's anti-gun-owner laws is helping many Canadians understand something that some of their British ancestors figured out back in 1215 with King John and the Magna Carta: There comes a time when a man who loves his country must tell his government, "Stop. Not one bit further."

http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/comment080200a.shtml

A second quote from another post

One motive for registration is simply a crass — although perhaps mistaken — political calculation that there are more urban female votes to be gained by attacking "masculine" culture than there are rural male votes to be lost. Indeed, polling research of Canadian gun-control supporters shows them to be almost perfectly ignorant of Canada's already-strict gun-control laws; their main motive for wanting more gun control is not the expectation that people will be safer, but their desire to express their antipathy for "macho" values.

Ye gods! Here's one woman who sees macho values as positive, that they bring us men who complement [not compliment, note] women, the males who bring the male perspective, skills and aspects of character that, with a woman's skills and abilities lead to happy pair bonding, homes and families. Many women are not enamoured with the feminized males; they want someone to share with, to form a whole person, so to speak.

Nor do they want Big Brother stepping in to take over their lives.

I Pose the following question:

You are walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small
children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes
around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a Glock 40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

Liberal Answer:

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the
man look poor or depressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? [. . . . ]

[. . . . ] Mr. Seper [Washington Times ] reports that: "The U.S. Border Patrol has warned agents in Arizona of incursions into the U.S. by [heavily armed] Mexican [military units]... 'trained to escape, evade and counterambush' if detected..." The Border Patrol also cautioned its agents to keep "a low profile" to use "cover and concealment" in approaching the Mexican military units, "to employ shadows and camouflage to conceal themselves and stay as quiet as possible."

As a red-blooded naturalized U.S. citizen (OK, perhaps slightly bluish-red), I felt my questionably hued blood boiling at the report that our Border Patrol has been instructed to hide and stay as quiet as possible in the face of a foreign military incursion. [. . . . ]

"intrusions by the Mexican military to protect drug loads happen all the time and represent a significant threat to the agents." He went on to say the incursions were not accidents, as the Mexican military has global positioning systems. [. . . . ]

Pat Lynch, Conservative? or Andy Scott Liberal?

Is the tribe quietly moving in for the kill? Some topics just galvanize them, so the latest unscientific poll follows at the end.

Fredericton's Min. Andy Scott & Same Sex Marriage & Poll

Atlantic and Fredericton representative and purveyor of ACOA / AIF pork Liberal Minister of Indian Affairs and Responsible for the Metis Minister Andy Scott is the one who, in the all-party committee that was studying whether or not to bring same sex marriage to the House of Commons in legislation, cast the deciding vote for SSM. The group had been split 50-50. As chairman of the committee, it was Andy's job to break the tie. He voted to bring same-sex legislation to the House and to make it law. I wonder why he did that when it has been exceedingly divisive, even within his own Liberal Party and government -- another nail in the Liberal coffin and I'm delighted that Mr. Scott hammered it in.

Andy, who is considered to be likeable and delivers the pork to be re-elected, is currently running against Conservative Pat Lynch and two other good people. This completely unscientific poll's results, reported by my contacts, has Pat gaining quietly on Andy. People know their jobs depend on not saying much openly in a university and government grant and jobs town like Fredericton, but the coffee shops and corner stores of Canada are a good place to keep one's ears peeled. Even the least au courant with the news, the ones who are too tired from working to bother with politics, have learned enough to say Begone, you Entitled Liberal Ones. Bring on a Conservative government and its Accountability Act to protect our tax dollars.

Thanks must go to the citizens' heroine Auditor General Sheila Fraser for her part by doing her job well.

Sorry, Mr. Cotler, but I feel "alarmist'

Ah yes, there would be no slippery slope coming out of the government's granting same-sex marriage legislation. Irwin Cotler personally assured Canadians that polygamy would never be an issue. To bring it up politically would be "alarmist'. Well, again, he lied. He was fully aware of the study on legalizing polygamy because it emanated from his own Justice Department. The Department, along with Status of Woman Canada, spent $150,000 to find out that the criminalization of polygamy would probably not withstand a Charter challenge. Especially if homosexuals were granted equal marriage status with heterosexuals. Despite knowing that they were opening a can of worms--why not brother marrying brother?--the government went along with it. In fact, why not brother and sister marrying, so long as they had their tubes tied? It's a very long slope to the bottom here. Besides, more ethnic groups in Canada (which the Liberals count on) believe in polygamy than do in same-sex marriage. Surely the government wouldn't want to cramp the wonderful "diversity" that they define as quintessential Canadianism. Well, only if they turned-off the still potent Anglo vote, that is.

Sharia law nearly gained legal status in Ontario until women (Atwood et al) convinced Premier McGuinty to rethink that idea and Quebec thought for itself on the subject. Maybe its women are less easy to get to go along? Obviously, the Status of Women Canada crowd are not enthused about polygamy either. Now, from my decades-old following of these government-financed womens' groups, I highly suspect that they are not male friendly. Still, next to the Quebecois, and the ethnic vote, women are right up there in the heavy clout department with the Liberals. They too, lean to soft socialism. However, the Muslim-Canadians have pushed for polygamy to be legalized. They oppose homosexual marriage, so why should they be excluded, logically? The Liberals are caught between a rock and a hard place with this conundrum. Then, if polygamy were sanctioned by the Supreme Court, what could Paul Martin do, having obliterated the Notwithstanding Clause? Why the Conservatives are not making an issue out of this study and its conclusions is beyond me. It would make for a lively discussion in the livingrooms of the pro-same-sex marriage folk.

NJC Comments:

I don't have a problem with leftists who are decent like Ed Broadbent who has earned everyone's respect, especially by his pairing with Chuck Cadman so Chuck would not have to rush to the House of Commons to vote during his cancer treatment and before his death last spring. That was such honourable behaviour. Broadbent is decent; he believes in certain things and all of us respect him and know that we need articulation of views from left and right to achieve the best balance. Even I had a close relative who was a CCF candidate, (CCF, Tommy Douglas' precursor to the NDP), one who was principled.

But, to whom is CBC's Susan Murray connected in the Liberal government or bureaucracy, or is she simply a lefty without any principles that would lend her a journalist's balance? Susan is simply harridan vicious. Why? She has taken an absence of some kind from CBC to work for the Liberals, I believe, and she sounds desperate and willing to bend the truth. I listened to her deny what the polls were saying yesterday morning. She might not like the poll results but other polls corroborated that one so she seemed overly desperate. Is some privilege she has acquired in jeopardy? On second thought, let her loose on Canadians who can hear, view and judge whether she deserves to be supported as a taxpayer-paid lackey for the Liberals. I can only hope ...

I know I have been criticized for stating my views as I do, perhaps for my views, but I am neither paid, nor do I make money from this blog. In fact, I have refused any ads because I'm not into consuming so it would be pointless for an advertiser of anything but books and music to place advertisements here.

I fell into blogging because three years ago I learned a few things, facts, along with others' and my own logical conclusions, knowledge that led me to learn even more than I had ever expected and I continued mining the net, digging for understanding. I had hoped to have some influence on those who do not need sweet nor faux-balance, else they become uneasy. No-one has ever accused me of being "nice", so it is impossible for me to change this aspect. Those who like their women nice won't return to this blog anyway. Whenever I tried to round my corners or to even attempt to please my critics, I failed in the next sentence or in the next post ... so I choose to be me and to write what I think. I hope I have had some positive effect in leading people to read more, at least. If not, if Canadians vote for more of the same, I fear for Canada's future.

I am optimistic, however.

Election Night Reminder

Don't forget the wine. For election night, as I watch the returns roll in, I shall have a bottle of chilled champagne--okay, the inexpensive, but still bubbly Spanish variety--to celebrate ... or in which to drown my sorrows. Until then, may I highly recommend hot mulled wine made with home-made plonk? It's the season for cozy and nothing smells better than home-made spice cookies fresh out of the oven ... or wafts of spicy mulled wine floating through the house. See, there is a little Better Homes and Gardens in me ... for those who doubt it. It just has a hard time getting past what I know and believe is important right now, this election and what it means for Canada and Canadians.

Copyright & Your Rights, Media & a Reality Check, Advertising, Personal Sacrifice & Children

Advertising, personal sacrifice & the interests of children

Canadians, please consider boycotting products which advertise by using a female--one intended-to-be-viewed--as smarter than men, or a rude girl or woman in some way opposed to a dumb and/or usually fat, sloppy male young or old, to sell.

Every time I see the rudeness presented as ... cute? trying to court women? ... whatever the intent is in the ad I am remembering, I want to smack the bottom of any little girl who would treat little boys so rudely. The ad is touting some drink like kool or thirst quencher -- something like that. She keeps slamming the door on gifts of cookies and the like from little boys after she takes the gift and doesn't show any appreciation for it. Even when she accepts the final gift of flowers before she slams the door on the poor budding schlub, he's fooled, for she dumps the flowers in the garbage, grabs and mixes the *** drink in his flower vase ... and drinks it all by herself.

Do advertisers care what they are doing, what they are teaching children, and that rudeness in children is not cute? Or am I too serious about this? I think the attitude toward boys and men shown in this type of ad is negative and insidious because children learn attitudes subtly and very young.

One example: At Christmas several of us received a card from one young family we all knew we would see in which we were asked not to bring alcohol to the house because the children are so aware and the parents don't want them to be exposed to drinking as they might come to see it as something that goes with every celebration. Yes, both parents drink wine. I applaud their efforts to bring up children without exposure to alcohol accompanying every get-together nor with even slightly enebriated visitors. When a child says, after a visit somewhere where they learned an unintended courtesy, "Daddy, could I bring you a coffee? milk? tea? ... a beer?", it's time to take parental action.

This is what good parents do; they sacrifice in the best interests of their children, as they see it. Giving a good example is genetic with these parents. Good on 'em! All of us applaud their efforts.

For those of us who grew up without alcohol in the house, our childhoods were secure in that we intuitively knew why our parents were so strict. They wanted all our options to be open ... that we might have the best start. We still might have hated being different, but we did know why. Now, we really understand, and no, we're not card-carrying members of any Temperance Movement. We learned eventually to drink responsibly ... if that is progress. Some of us even learned to make wine from real grapes so the government wouldn't get any pleasure out of taxing it ... one of my personal bests in the fight against Big Brother and for freedom from their control.

It is the parental choice to curb their own desires in the interest of their children that I applaud.

Rights such as those of that fine, cured of shoplifting candidate from BC with the Ottawa-honed, precious taste in diamond rings.

CBC types don't have journalistic integrity nor the loyalty to explore the views of those who pay their relatively high salaries, the taxpaying Canadians. CBC's most successful have developed the subtle shivs and tones worthy of a budding Kim Il's Press Corps ... or Pravda at its most subtle. They will even sacrifice the burning crosses Fry for certain "rights". How many gays work for CBC or the government, anyway? There are other issues of importance this election but they apparently hope this will sell the Liberals. (Check Bud's post today for more on same-sex marriage and the slippery slope to polygamy, etc.)

CBC loyalty doesn't move much past saving their own bacon ... their right to fill the airwaves with leftist cant from the comfortable pew you paid for ... but you must have noted that by now.

Excellent idea. I am including the titles of other items on the site because it seems like a good resource if you choose to learn more ... and there is much more to learn about the present government's plans, should we be unlucky enough for them to be re-elected.

For the moment, the American administration appears content to allow the French and Germans to humiliate themselves in negotiations. Canada's Heroes: that thin line between us and madness ...

All our security forces work to protect us within and without -- from criminal gangs, gun crime, Islamic terrorist madness, and more.

Canada's military have contributed overwhelmingly to keeping us free of dictators and the Hitlers and Osamas of this world. Our soldiers deserve our respect and enough funding to do their jobs. They deserve that the purchase of military equipment be depoliticized; that means getting certain areas and all politicians out of the decision making on provisioning. Our military need and deserve decent equipment. They do not need Prime Ministers like Jean Chretien playing politics with their lives. Think Sea Kings and JC's cancellation of the contract for replacement helicopters (also, perhaps other equipment) that is safe, or ordering it so late that it became unsafe during the wait of five years or so because of political considerations -- perhaps that it wouldn't play well in certain area(s). Remember the submarines he bought? One Canadian mariner died in that first trip from the UK to Canada. I have posted previously that one, or both, of our latest Prime Ministers refused to fly on a military helicopter.

Don't you wish our military could fly on the tastefully appointed, taxpayer-paid-for executive jet just once in their lives ... the jet on which PM, JC and selected favoured ones get to fly? (Sherrer to the Banff Arts Center, I believe)
