Immigration's Underclass

Diane Francis from The National Post's financial section (Apr. 29) has again exposed the laxity of our immigration system. She points out that the level of low income newcomers has jumped from 23% in 1980 to 35% by year 2000. The reason for this is the large numbers of immigrants that arrive are either non-productive relatives or as refugees, thus by-passing any criteria that rewards them for skills or language. She puts it succinctly, "Despite such evidence of economic damage, politicians have been frightened to reform or even debate policies, because the immigration and refugee industry--mostly paid by government grants--label all critics and criticism as racist." She could have added the traditional voter support that the Liberals get from the large ethnic communities in the urban centers.

In this column she runs some of the comments her other immigration columns have generated from immigrants themselves. One Malaysian immigrant tells of the Taiwanese family whose father lives permanently in Taiwan. Occasionally he flies back to Canada via the United States to make an appearance before a government officer. After only three years of this, he can claim Canadian citizenship and discontinue this charade. The family plans to go home to Taiwan as soon as the son graduates. The son plans to go to the US. This residency scam has been a favourite of the Hong Kong citizens for years. The entrepeneur buy-your-way-in system has also been exposed as mainly a scam. Large numbers of the "businesses" they set up are mere shells, that are abandoned -- once citizenship is granted.

I have been waiting for Francis to illuminate some of the less noble records that immigrants or refugees have racked up -- such as the six Somalian taxi drivers in Yellowknife (of all places) who worked the largest phone fraud in Canadian history--$6,000,000 worth of phony calls. Or the radical BC Sikhs who accounted for the worse terrorist attack in Canadian history, when they blew up the Air India plane over the Atlantic and tried to blow up another over the Pacific. Then there is Gamil Gharbi, son of an Algerian immigrant, who gunned down 14 female engineering students in Montreal. If you don't recognize his name that is because the politically correct media never used his former name, one used until age 16. The day after the massacre he was referred to only as Marc Lepine--thus making him the perfect poster boy for the feminists to tar all Canadian males as ultra-violent misoygnists. Finally, let us not forget that wonderous tribe of Aidids, whose patriarch was General Aidid, the warlord in Somalia, made famous in the Blackhawk Down incident. This family had a penchant for massive welfare fraud in Ontario. Not quite up there with the Khadrs, but trying. I know I've missed a few other record holders--ah yes, the Jamaican robber, who was deported to Jamaica, but who managed to slip back into Canada two more times to commit more crimes.

Now I am not trying to suggest that most immigrants are criminal minded. Most try to make a sincere contribution to their adopted country. It is the increasing numbers that our government lets in, who should never have been allowed in, that I am railing against. People who come here with either completely incompatible cultural attitudes, no skills, or with criminal intent should be barred. We cannot allow our beautiful country to be hobbled by the likes of these.

One Cool Remove Away

It seems that Pierre Pettigrew has mis-spoken himself, or in current pol speak he wants to "clarify his former statement" about medicare. While he twice stated that he basically approved of private health care, it seems he was tragically misunderstood. What he really meant to say was that he firmly stands by the public in the government supported public health care system. It was the devious opposition that had twisted his words. Doesn't this remind you of Chretien's statement that "I'll crush that detestable GST tax." I'm sure that a private flogging will occur when Martin gets back from assuring that Canada is on the same page as the Americans on security. Of course, our new security bill will have a section that makes sure that the main group of potential terrorists, the Muslim population, will have ample room to bitch about any provision that would target the potential perpetrators. How Canadian. One day we will wake up with a horrible thud. But then, of course, the government will claim, "Who knew?"

Things We Need

Honest, kick-your-butt rock music. Forget Outkast, Beck and the other soon to be forgotten wonders. Give us Bob Seger, Joe Cocker, and The Band. Throw in The Beatles and The Stones to boot.

Give us Robert Mitchum, as Max Cady the ex-con, casually telling Gregory Peck in the original Cape Fear that "You know counsellor, your daughter is almost as juicy as your wife", then backing away from Peck's futile blows and saying, "Did you see that folks, and he calls himself a man of the law." Little that Vin Diesel says or blows up can top that for building terror.

A pick-up game of baseball with school bags as bases, versus a nintendo game of whatever.

The whole family sitting around the one television enjoying something as simple-minded as a Charlie Chan movie, versus each member of the family having their own set, and watching something equally simple-minded.

A homemade chocolate cake, versus a M*****'s "Deep and Delicious" confection of assorted chemicals.

The days when company CEOs made money for their investors, and were not bankrupting them through embezzlement.

The days when you make an A on your university course, and it meant something other than hyper-grade inflation.

Reading from the Little Red Book

An acquaintance has informed me about the definitive multicultural CBC edition of the news. There this person sits, trying to glean some local news that has import for the locals. Apparently, the 6 P.M. news is anchored by an East-Indian Canadian, Anita Sharma, who moves to a Varma woman, who then moves to a Lau, who then moves to a Nathoo woman. In between, they occasionally cut to the native New Brunswickers, who used to anchor the local news, Terry Seguin, Geoff Britt, Barbara Nobes--now only far-flung reporters, who report on curling touraments and the like in places like Plaster Rock and Temperance Vale (such outposts do exist). When these three Indo-Canadians are through giving you the real news, they cut to the National segment, where Hanomansingh takes over. He then cuts to Ms. Taruc for the financial up-date. If you complain to the CBC ombudsman about this, you will receive a reply that tars one as the type of racist who should be ashamed. The fact that these people no more represent New Brunswick than an all-Caucasion line-up would represent Vancouver is obviously beside the point. Also mentioned is that the whole last week, all news of local concern has been given over to one Maritime province's inability to keep immigrants. We can't attract the necessary number of immigrants, but we sure can attract the CBC equivalent, one suspects.

Here we see the CBC's social engineering at its most obvious -- in the service of the pushing the multicultural policies of the government of Canada. It almost seems as if the message is: let's stop building immigrant ghettoes in Toronto; let's start building them in the Maritimes. God, these New Brunswickers are so backward they don't even have Thai or sushi restaurants yet.

Bud, My Apologies

My apologies to Bud and to others who like to read what he writes. I have been swamped and I inadvertently missed posting these. There are 34 documents on my desktop that need attention -- and that is down from the usual 50 or so. Anyway, a little late, I am posting these for him. He really should do it himself -- but he's happy to have a slave of sorts -- even a tardy one. So, Bud, if you are reading this, mea culpa -- but that's life -- and you really can't rely on slaves -- even willing ones. They are just too slow. And now, on to Bud. NJC

Update: Someone reminded me that now that slaves can't be flogged, slavery is just not what it used to be. Just so, Bud. Is it time for you to take up posting your own blog, Bud? Just kidding. Keep on writing as long as you don't mind how long it takes me. NJC

Spice up Your Life and Live Longer

A scientific study is under way to find out how spices affect the health. So far, scientists have zeroed in on cinnamon, tumeric, cumin and oregano as beneficial in a range of diseases. For some strange reason, people who ate apple pie had good results in keeping their blood glucose levels down. Scientists figured that apples had loads of chrominum in them so . . . . But when they deconstructed the ingredients, there was was no chromium at all in the pie. It was the cinnamon that did it. Not only that, but it sent triglycerides and cholesterol levels plummeting. While this was be horrifying news for the makers of Lipitor and Zocor, it is good news for us. Tumeric, a spice found in curries, helped mice with cystic fibrosis lead normal lives.

Turning to anti-oxidants, which control inflamation, the researchers found that herbs beat out vegetables and fruits. Oregano had 42 times the anti-oxidant power of apples, 12 times more than orange juice and 30 times more than potatoes. It is notable that Indians and Pakistanis, who love their tumeric-laced hot dishes have the lowest rate of Alzheimers in the world.

"France's Scarlet Letter"

Marie Brenner has penned a dispatch from France on the growing anti-semitism there. The handful of anti-semitic incidents in Canada pales by comparison with what is happening in France. There have been over 1,000 attacks against Jews and their synogogues since 2001. The response of the French to these has been tepid, to say the least. While a handful of these incidents have been motivated by the neo-nazi right, the majority come from the enormous Muslim population, who now make up 10% of the nation. Large numbers of these North Africans are unemployed or under-employed. Mainly, they have settled in the slum suburbs of the major cities, in what the French police call "Lawless zones". While their hatred of Jews is visceral, they are aided by the "soft anti-semitism" of the native French. Because the French support the Palestinians over the Israelis, it is easy to turn a blind eye to the violence of the Muslims against even their own Jewish citizens. In one incident, the author reports that the French police did nothing as thousands of Arabs stormed down the center of Paris, screaming "Death to the Jews"--notice, not the Israelis, but Jews in general. It reminds me of how ineffective the Montreal police were in controlling the Muslim students who rioted at Concordia.

Brenner puts this French denial of the impending danger this will create down to a perverse political correctness. Maybe they feel guilty about their colonial past in North Africa. But slowly it is dawning on the average Frenchman that something must be done soon to control this lawlessness. I have previously read that over 1,600 cars in Strasbourg are stolen by Muslim youths and then burned -- each year. Many of the imams are fundalmentalists who preach anti-western ideas. The author mentions Muslim students who revile their female teachers in class and tear out their pictures from their notebooks and replace them with pictures of Bin Laden. And finally, Jacques Chirac is seen as so pro-Saddam and pro-Arafat, that his nickname on Muslim school yards is "King of the Arabs". How long this mentality can play out, when the nickname for the Muslims is les jeunes--so-called because they represent a large number of France's youth population--remains to be seen. After a while the genie cannot be put back into the bottle. Canada should take note, before this chilling scenario becomes commonplace here.

Sudan--the horror show that never makes primetime

While the Un General Assembly can always find it in their hearts to comdemn Israel for its "genocidal" policies towards the Palestinians, they can always manage to paper-over the real genocide occurring in the Sudan. Forget (I'm sure you have already) the two decades old civil war there, which has killed or displaced two million black Christian Sudanese; we cannot even stop the current Arab militias from rampaging through the Danfur region. By its own estimates, the UN believes that Arab Sudanese forces have killled untold thousands of its black inhabitants and driven out 750,000 more from that region. The Islamic north of Sudan is trying to enforce sharia law on its Christian south and will stop at nothing to accomplish that desire. UN members have again shown how impotent and morally corrupt they are in their stance towards this catastrophe. As usual, the dictatorships stick together and vote down any remedy. Imagine if Israel were to employ the same tactics in dealing with the Palestinians. The outrage and demands for immediate action would be deafening, not just from the totalitarian Muslim states, but also from "soft power" countries like Canada and Sweden. The world's neglect of this unfolding crisis reminds me of the willful blindness that allowed the Holocaust to occur. The fact that the nominally Christian countries of the UN cannot muster the moral energy to demand a resolution is a stain on their democratic reputations.

Chuck Guite's testimony--Input or Interference? You decide.

Andrew Coyne's article in The National Post (Apr. 24) is entitled "The world according to G. Gordon Guite". He is playing on the idea of Guite being like G. Gordon Liddy, the Watergate conspirator. Liddy liked to regale the U.S. Senate committee investigating that scandal with tales of his various capers. Guite tells us about the time he bought up $8 million worth of billboard ads for his Liberal masters. No contract, no tendering, just a phone call to a Montreal media organization. Also like Liddy, he saw nothing wrong with breaking ("bending" in Guite speak) the rules. The end justifies the means was their common credo.

Coyne points out that, for Guite, any pressure from Chretien's crowd to do certain sponsorship contracts, or use certain pre-selected ad agencies, was mere "input"; however, if it came from Martin it was blatant "interference". A fine distinction that would elude we hoi polloi.

Much more priceless is his claiming that just because there were no invoices, or tenders, or even records written on the back of cigarette packages, that did not mean there were no file records kept. No, he kept them in his head. This would prevent that wily enemy, the Separatists, from getting at them through the Access to Information Act. Wow!

Why didn't teachers think of that when making up final exam marks? -- "Well, John failed because he made 37.2% on his finals. Proof? I memorized the result, before I shredded the exam." Oh, the problems could be avoided from irate parents and students, if teachers would just use Chuck's method.

The machinations that these guys consider normal leaves the public flabbergasted. One thing was consistent though, Guite took Dingwall's warning to heart: "You won't rat on them [the PC's], so you won't rat on us." Thank you Mr. Guite for elucidating the workings of government.

© Bud -- it was also good to understand how the few documents that Guite claims did exist -- on his exit -- disappeared. "Mr. Cutler, [the main whistleblower in the department] destroyed them", Guite said without a moment's hesitation.

Guite's scalpel cuts with precision, does it not? This is why we need whistleblower legislation independent of what Paul Martin is allowing -- which will NOT protect good people who want to do the right thing. NJC

Hyphenated Canadians

It emerged as a vote getter under the Trudeau regime -- "Give every embittered minority bags of loot to sue the government in court or to keep his culture not only alive, but vibrant" -- and now it is time to stop this divisive politicking and create one Canada of Canadians -- whether wasps/other whites, aboriginals, immigrants, metis -- whatever. We need to start identifying ourselves as Canadians, not hyphenated Canadians.

The gospel according to Bud

Bud Has a Few Unanswered Questions

Now that Canada's Paul Martin, PM, has dedicated himself to the whistle-blower file, will RCMP officer Read be re-instated for showing that Hong Kong immigration people were accepting bribes to allow Chinese gangsters into Canada?

What connects Trudeau to the cascade of Supreme Court decisions that have by-passed the will of the people?

Why were dozens of high profile deportees accused of crimes against humanity and serious crimes in Canada allowed to flee deportation? Does the Canadian multiculuralism ethos have no bounds? Will those who went into hiding use their fake documentation to vote Liberal in the next election?

Should Canada just cut the Natives/Indians loose and say, "If you think native culture is the way to go, then see what the beaded belt market really sells for"?

Did the Central African Republic accept Haiti's Aristide because he brought back nostalgic memories of "Emperor" Bokassa (formerly Sergeant Bokassa)? Bokassa is best remembered for beating to death a room full of school boys for not buying uniforms made in his factory.

Whatever happened to those Pakistani wannabe-refugees to Canada who were massed on the border after The U.S. Patriot Act came in? Did they get in? Or would that be a "privacy concern"?

Why did the Americans censor the footage of their blowing away of the Iraqis on the infamous Highway of Death outside Kuwait? I happened to have caught that the night it happened. A classic night vision show. I still remember one pilot saying, "[*****], this is better than a turkey shoot!" After that initial showing it disappeared forever. If you are going to destroy an army that had been torturing Kuwaitis and looting their homes for spoils, why not let the footage out?

Does anybody today remember that in his book, And the Band Played on, Randy Stilts reported that "Patient Zero", a French-Canadian flight attendent, was identified as the infector of hundreds of people? Or that this one person was probably ultimately responsible for an epidemic that killed thousands? Or that on the day of his own death--after his ten year reign of death--a 19 year old male model was flying out of Vancouver to sleep with him?

Did Dodi get his 70 virgins for the martyrdom of putting up with a rather flaky woman?

Does a Senator, who falls asleep in chambers after lunch, get credited with a full day of attendance?

Which is better for Zambia? To let possibly tens of thousands starve to death, or let in American genetically-modified grain and corn?

Would the video game, Grand Theft Auto sell more if all the victims, world-wide, were politicians?

Why have Canadians allowed the federal government to continue with--and even promote--the over-representation of francophones in various departments and the civil service, particularly at the higher levels? Oh, they will deny it -- and manage to massage the numbers to prove otherwise -- but we know. Did you ever try to find the percentage of BC's citizens in either the Cabinet or even in the federal civil service?

This list of questions is inexhaustible. My, that was fun. I find myself wanting to go on. There is no end to the questions that have never been answered. However, trying to get past this injustice, I shall focus on the bigger picture.

Britain on a suicide watch

CNN's Anderson Cooper reported this evening that the Muslim imam, al-Hamza and another cleric have called on Britain's Muslims to wage jihad against the West if Bin Laden's "truce" is not accepted. Now, this is the same fanatic who used to stand in Hyde Park and call for the assassination of John Major and Tony Blair. He was also connected with the notorious Finsbury Park mosque, which the police closed down as a terrorist haven. I thought this seditious b****** was going to be locked up, or at least deported back to his native Eygpt. The latter solution would be preferrable, as the Eygptians would deal with him properly -- but obviously nothing has happened to stop his murderous rants. As we know, a fair number of British Muslim youths have already taken up the Al-Queda banner, so why is this thug still running around loose? But then why are the Khadrs still enjoying Canada's hospitality? Maybe we have inherited the same suicide gene as the Brits. It is all quite unbelievable.

Blowing the whistle on Martin's "democratic deficit reduction" -- The Ministry of Truth

It is passing strange to think that the New Liberal Party would consider anything that would expose them to the glare of unwanted publicity. Let's take the so-called whistleblower bill. Now that we have seen through the sponsorship scandal committee such sterling examples of whistleblowing, we naturally crave more. Well, this new bill is not going to provide that. Rather, as Ralph Heintzman, the vice-president of the new office of Public Service Values and Ethics, tells us, the bill should really be called "the internel disclosure bill". This is because it encourages public servants to keep their concerns inside government. Gee, I thought that is what they had been doing all along. Now they have a new department to waste more taxpayer money on forcing potential public whistleblowers to toe the line. The top boys must all keep a copy of Orwell's 1984 on their desks. Why don't they go the whole route and call the new department, "The Ministry of Truth".

Next up for a fresh appraisal of fighting the "democratic deficit" is Martin's pronouncement that there will be more openness in the selection of Supreme Court appointments. Put to its first test, it fails abysmally. Journalists can't even get a peek at the profiles of the candidates being considered. The reason for this, according to Vic Toews the Conservative justice critic, is that "It's the political analysis of that profile that they're worried about and the whole assertion that these are not political appointments."

Finally, the Liberals' attempts to ease the draconian laws on marijuana use also has a Big Brother twist to it. Sure you can have a baby baggie of grass and not face criminal prosecution -- but if you are caught driving while under its influence, you can potentially face up to five years in jail. The new law would call for road side drug testing as well. Now you can polish off that quart of whisky and get caught driving, thus facing a license suspension and a $1,000 fine -- but if you smoke a joint and drive, you could face five years in prison. How draconian is that? It's enough to bring a smile to the American drug czar's lips. Carrying the Liberal mindset to its extreme, we could empty the prisons of all the culturally misunderstood natives and fill them up with law-biding citizens who simply like a toke. And the Liberals have the nerve to call the Conservatives radical?

Shop till you drop--into bankruptcy court

What do monster homes, SUVs, and Caribbean resorts have in common? For far too many Canadians they mean debt--big time. In The National Post financial section (Sat.24), Jonathan Chevreau warns that Canadians and Americans are living in a fool's paradise of low interest rates. In fact, the interest rates have been kept artificially low by the Federal Banks to stimulate commerce. They don't even meet the yearly inflation rates. Cars are flying off the lots with zero per cent financing. while mortgages are at historic lows. A generation, which has never been taught that what goes down must come up, are bingeing on items they don't need, and won't be able to finance when rates go up--as is on the horizon. Chevreau maintains that rather than pile on more debt, now is the time to start paying it down. Unfortunately, a generation that wants it all and wants it now is not listening. The credit card companies are partially to blame. It always astonishes me to see huge posters in universities -- posters offering credit cards to students who are already in hock for their education. Besides which, there is no guarantee that they will ever find lucrative employment in their fields, for example, computer grads. Another sucker element are the businesses that offer easy credit, but with punishing interest rates for late payment.

Chevreau presents some troubling statistics. 185 million Americans have credit cards and the average debt on them is $8,400. Canadians are no better, he says, "as they owe $458 billion in debt, or almost $15,000 for each man, woman, and child in this country." He quotes Stanley Kershman, author of Put your Debt on a Diet, who claims "most Canadians are only two pay cheques away from bankruptcy." The idea that a young couple at entry level salaries can afford a new home, two cars, and stays in $220 a night hotels is fallacious thinking. After daily living expenses, taxes, and various skyrocketing insurances are paid out, most can do no more than make the minimum payments on their incurred debts. When the interest rates climb, many won't be able to even make those payments. Another illogical idea is that the homes they bought will forever keep evaluating upwards. They should study the cyclical movement of housing prices. Many people went bankrupt in the early 70's when mortgage rates hit the 20% mark -- or higher. Closer at hand was the housing bust of the early 90's. In such a volatile world as the current one, anything could upset their apple cart--spiking oil prices, catastrophic terrorist attacks, or having their jobs outsourced to the Third World. None of these dire threats to their economic well-being is implausible. As Chevreau cautions, "It is time for Canadians to rediscover the virtues of delayed gratification."

Joe Clark a traitor? Not really, Methinks

What is the difference between a red Tory and a Liberal? The Liberals get elected. Why would anyone bother voting for a party led by a weak-kneed, small-L guy like Joe Clark, when you could get the full monty with the Liberals--plus the ever-grateful Quebecois vote? Considering most of Clark's Red Tory rump, and their appeasement of the bilingual and immigration/refugee lobby, I am only surprised he didn't suggest that Layton was less "dangerous" than Harper. It might be unkind, but wasn't Joe's timing of his radical shift in political allegiance a bit suspect? After all it did come on the heels of Mulroney's endorsement of Stephen Harper, and we know the hard feelings that exist between those two. Also worth considering was Clark's own attempt to merge the Canadian Alliance with his PCs. That turned out to be a short term success, with all but one CA member going back to the fold. I guess if Joe Who could have been the big chief of this merry fusion, it wouldn't have sailed into "dangerous" territory. But, of course, now he can accurately prophesy that under Harper a "hidden agenda" lurks. An agenda of racial intolerance, (a.k.a. intelligent immigration/refugee control), toadying to the Yanks, and undermining that sacred cow--bilingualism--will soon materialize. Already they are dyeing their KKK garments a governmental blue in anticipation of a sinister power grab. Oh, if Joe had only been around to have stopped Hitler in the 30's.

None of Clark's prognostications has any validity to them. With the exception of similar hide-bound Red Tories, who join him in a far crevice of the Commons, the real conservatives have realistically joined together to defeat this impossibly corrupt and ineffective Liberal government, I have always thought that Joe was a petty little man and his pronouncement this weekend has cemented that opinion.
