Sudan--the horror show that never makes primetime

While the Un General Assembly can always find it in their hearts to comdemn Israel for its "genocidal" policies towards the Palestinians, they can always manage to paper-over the real genocide occurring in the Sudan. Forget (I'm sure you have already) the two decades old civil war there, which has killed or displaced two million black Christian Sudanese; we cannot even stop the current Arab militias from rampaging through the Danfur region. By its own estimates, the UN believes that Arab Sudanese forces have killled untold thousands of its black inhabitants and driven out 750,000 more from that region. The Islamic north of Sudan is trying to enforce sharia law on its Christian south and will stop at nothing to accomplish that desire. UN members have again shown how impotent and morally corrupt they are in their stance towards this catastrophe. As usual, the dictatorships stick together and vote down any remedy. Imagine if Israel were to employ the same tactics in dealing with the Palestinians. The outrage and demands for immediate action would be deafening, not just from the totalitarian Muslim states, but also from "soft power" countries like Canada and Sweden. The world's neglect of this unfolding crisis reminds me of the willful blindness that allowed the Holocaust to occur. The fact that the nominally Christian countries of the UN cannot muster the moral energy to demand a resolution is a stain on their democratic reputations.
