Those Who Sow the Seeds of Destruction Shall Reap the Whirlwind

For over a decade the Muslim states of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq have been actively supporting the fundamentalist movements. So long as their targets were in the West, they were heralded as "resistence fighters". Now the chickens have come home to roost. The twin bombings in Basra and Riyadh are the work of these same "resistance fighters", who aim to topple the current governments. In Pakistan there have been numerous assasination attempts against President Mussharif, as well as numerous bombing attacks against various religious groups.

In Iraq, Saddam and his Baathist party have given sanctuary to various Islamic militants and monetarily supported Hamas suicide bombers. If Israel had not bombed Iraq's nuclear reactor years ago, they might have had an atomic bomb by now. Pakistan has supported al_Queda and the Taliban for years. Even today there are still elements of support for them in the tribal areas of the north-west and amongst some in the Pakistani intelligence service. In the case of Saudi Arabia, the princes have funnelled hundreds of millions to numerous terrorist groups, partly because their own brand of Islam is fanatical, and partly because it was a pay-off to al-Queda to leave them alone. It was not a coincidence that 15 of the 19 September 11 suicide bombers were Saudis. In fact, there were direct links of support to some of them from the Saudi royal family. Jordan is a case of past support for the PLO and other terrorist groups. It gave santuary to Carlos the Jackel--one of the most heinous mass murderers in the 1970's and 80's. However, King Hussein realized the slippery slope this entailed and cut off support. That is why the Islamists have targeted his regime. A foiled attack on government installations and various foreign targets would have been simply catastrophic. Besides bombs where was a chemical component was involved would have killed up to 20,000.

We can only hope that the latest attacks on these countries will shake them up and help them join a coalition of those seriously fighting back. You cannot appease fanatics, who believe that democracy must be smashed, in order for an Orwellian theocracy to rise from the rubble.
