$$$, Terrorism, Islam & Islamists

Update: The man shot yesterday by London police was not connected to the latest London bombing; left unexplained was why, when police tried to stop him the man, he fled into the tube station, jumped a turnstile and onto a rail car . . . and so, police acted. Hindsight is so 20/20. This will feed the media and rumour mills, unfortunately.

Faces of the four bombers By Ben Fenton and John Steele, July 23, 05

Editorial: Policing Terror July 23, 05

Both Israeli and Sri Lanka security forces -- who have more experience than any other police and intelligence services in the world with terrorists willing to blow themselves up -- have devised successful protocols for stopping such bombers, especially the Israelis.

In both nations, the military and civilian police have accepted that there are no good choices, so they are instructed to shoot suicide bombers in the commission of their murderous acts. There is no negotiating with someone who has already convinced himself to die for his cause, so delay is surely deadly. [. . . . ]

Michael Coren: Left-leaning hypocrisy July 23, 05

[. . . . ] Quite clearly, we need to distinguish between armed resistance to oppression and the intentional killing of the innocent.
But when the latter is obvious, as with the London mass murders, we cannot hide behind euphemisms.

This is particularly so for the CBC, which for years has used pejorative and judgmental words to describe people who are pro-life, orthodox Christian and conservative. If the words aren't enough, one only has to look at the gestures and listen to the inflection of various anchors and interviewers, to know where they stand. [. . . . ]

Would these be considered traitors? The men who blame Britain By George Jones, Political Editor, July 20, 05

Muslims urged to be 'caring citizens' -- or is is "You can guide this government proactively" -- i.e. Get involved in the political process and then change things? Siri Agrell, National Post, July 23, 05

Dr. Mohamed Elmasry addressed more than 1,000 men, women and children at the mosque of the International Muslim Organization in Etobicoke, urging "smart integration" into Canadian society through education, political engagement and the rejection of violence.

"You can guide this government proactively -- you don't have to use violence," he said. . . . .

[. . . . ] Canadian Muslims also have a responsibility to remain engaged in the democratic process.

"We have a democratic deficit in this country ... and it's worse in the Canadian Muslim community," he said. "We are new to democracy and we wonder what is the use?"
After the service, Dr. Elmasry said he believes Muslims in England are isolated within their own country. "Canadian Muslims are in a better position to contribute," he said. "British Muslims were angry about their government's actions. Here, there is a way to express that."

To encourage greater participation within the community -- and especially among young Muslims -- the CIC will be offering courses on Canadian history, law, politics and media. It will also offer scholarships to young Muslims interested in pursuing a university education in journalism, political science, social work and other socially active fields. [. . . . ]

Did you notice these words which might have a positive effect -- or were they missing? "Turn in to police Islamists and imams who preach hatred and violence?" Of course, then Mr. Elmasry would be included since he feels all Jews are worthy of being targeted. (posted by Frost Hits the Rhubarb previously)

Would it be cynical of me to suggest that in teaching Canadian history, et cetera, Mr. Elmasry is going to arm Muslims to become more politically activist in their cause? Perhaps teaching Muslims how to cry "racial profiling"? "Racism"? When he mentions Muslims being in a position "to contribute", I think of PM and his "investments" using Canadians' $$$; that is, it costs everyone except PM.

Islam Holy?
Islam is Holy?

In contemporary Islamic circles, Iran's late Ayatollah is held in high esteen and in fact since his death has assumed a place of honor amongst Muslim notables such as Taymiyya, Wahhab, Muhammed Iqbal, Abu al-Mawdudi, al-Ala, Abu al-Hasan, Sayyid Qutb and Malik Bennabi,

The Ayatollah is renowved for his piety:Khomeini said: "Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious."

Khomeini preached worldwide violent Islamic revolution, thundering that "those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world."

"Why do you only read the Quranic verses of mercy and do not read the verses of killing?" Khomeini challenged fellow clerics in a 1981 speech. "Qu'ran says: kill, imprison! Why are you only clinging to the part that talks about mercy? Mercy is against God." The tyrant also exhorted his followers to "kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all."

Khomeini was fond of quoting the Peaceful Koran:

London: Behind Infidel Lines
Walid Phares, FrontPageMag, July 22, 05

“We have to wait and see if these incidents are terrorism related.” [. . . . ]

On several radio shows during yesterday morning, I compared the current legalistic logic in the terror war with odd statements the British would have never made back during the Blitz of 1940. Let's just imagine after each wave of Nazis bombers, city officials would caution the media from rushing to quick conclusions, saying: We don't know if these were bombs or gas explosions! Or: Let's call them bombers but not Nazis, before we actually show the Swastikas in a courtroom!

[. . . . ] While the West wrestled with this definition “crisis”, the leading commentators in the Arab world were already exploring which Jihadist group was responsible, while, of course, blaming Britain and the US for the attacks. Ironically, there is a mental time zone between London and the Eastern Mediterranean. By the morning, Salafi chat rooms and cyber salons were already celebrating the second “Ghazwa” (raid) of London. Regardless of casualties, the Jihadis were celebrating the “penetration” of the British system: “Lan yanjahu fi darb el mujahideen” (they won't be successful in hitting the Mujahidin, sic) a chatting person lashed out. This was very indicative of the equation: The so-called bombers, failing to achieve mass death, wanted to score a point; that is that they are on the offensive. Meanwhile their infidel enemies were busy reconstructing the evidence. [. . . . ]

The Conservative Party has a positive plan for the future of Canada, but unfortunately it cannot be released until the election writ has been dropped. To reveal all now would only enable the morally-bankrupt, corruption-prone, scandal-ridden LIEberal Party to steal most of the Conservative vision (as they have for most of the past 13 years). Then, of course, with the help of the LIEberal-friendly media we would all read about all these great LIEberal ideas!!

The media is trying to prod Stephen Harper to release all now, but it will only be released in very general terms until the writ is dropped. At that time, the Conservative vision can be clearly defined and outlined and the LIEberals will not be able to steal it since it will be clearly Conservative policy that no LIEberal has ever talked about previously. It is sad that the full Conservative policy and platform canot be released now-we know the public wants it but the political reality with the corrupt LIEberals in power means everything must be kept under wraps until the election campaign. At that time, the positive and the ambitious Conservative plan for Canada will be showcased. [. . . . ]

I know one of the things they will do to clean up government is to introduce conflict of interest laws like they have in the States. For example, while Finance Minister, Martin should not have been able to retain ownership of CSL and benefit from government handouts to CSL, but he did. The Conservatives would pass a bill stating that anyone holding public office would have to divest themselves of their corporate interests. And I don't mean 'blind trusts', they're too easy to get around.

Johnson says in general national media 'ignorant' on big issues The Hill Times, July 18th, 2005, THE HOT ROOM, By Bea Vongdouangchanh

William Johnson says he's been struck again and again in his journalism career, on how on the big issues, 'journalists somehow seem to be content with the most superficial things possible.' Read on.

William Johnson, author of the recently-released political biography Stephen Harper and the Future of Canada, says Conservative Party Leader Stephen Harper is "an anti-politician kind of politician" who can't get a break from eastern Canadian media because they're "still judging him by conventional criteria of a Prime Minister who really pleases them." As well, he says, generally, the national media "are ignorant" of the big issues facing the country.

"How do you judge a potential Prime Minister?" Mr. Johnson said. "To me, you don't judge the future Prime Minister by good looks, by a kind of pseudo-charismatic charm. You judge them by their track record and were they right on the big issues?" [. . . . ]

The beach book for conservatives this summer is William Johnson's just-released Stephen Harper and the Future of Canada. [. . . . ]

Although Harper served only a single term in Parliament in the 1990s, he was probably the most important Canadian politician of that decade. From 1993 on, Reform forced Ottawa's fiscal agenda and from 1995 on, following the cliffhanging Quebec referendum, it forced the federal government's no-nonsense "Plan B" agenda on Quebec. As Reform's main man on policy, Harper was chief architect of both policies.

That no-nonsense approach to separatism makes him Trudeau-like in a second way.
Johnson argues, perfectly persuasively, that on all the big issues of his time Harper has come down on the right side, in all senses of "right." He was for free trade, for clarity on Quebec, for fiscal sanity, for smaller government, for lower taxes. If we judge politicians on their judgment, Harper is a guy with a track record of great judgment.

[. . . . ] if Harper sticks to his principles, it's not yet out of the question Canadians will come to respect him enough to put him in Pierre Trudeau's chair.

The Canadian Islamic community--Where exactly does it stand on extremists?

The National Post's Chris Wattie (July, 22, 05 A-10) wrote on the response to the London bombings from Canada's Islamic leaders. Some strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in London. However, the resulting declaration was signed only by a small fraction of Canada's imams, and it fell short of a religious fatwa calling these bombings a sin, as was done by England's clerics. Perhaps the most disappointing feature of this condemnation was the revelation from Naiz Salimi, the president of the Canadian-Islamic Congress, who stated that many of the imams who did sign the declaration were themselves guilty of "encouraging separation, extremism, misorgyny, and homophobia on a unparalleled scale". Another critic was Frank Dimant, of Canada's B'nai Brith, who said that the number of signees was very small and asked, "Where are the others?" So was this demonstration simply a PR exercise? A classic example of crocodile tears?

As disappointing as those revelations were, there is the related issue of how our security vigilance has been increased. Ron Moran, the president of the Customs and Excise Union, has contradicted Ann McLellan's statement, that since the first London bombings, there has been beefed up security. Custom officiers from across Canada have called Mr. Frank to say nothing has changed and no new staff have been added to allow necessary secondary inspections. I'm afraid that of the two contradictory stories, I buy Ron's over Ms. McLellan's. In fact, having watched TV most of yesterday and today, I've not even heard the Liberals make any statement, not even condolences. Transport Canada did notify the transportation systems to suggest "increased vigilance was necessary". We had better get with the new program soon, or face dire consequences. If Ron Moran's report is correct, than our air and land borders are the same old sieves as before. We must do better on the government front and our Muslim leaders in their spiritual / cultural realm.

Bud Talkinghorn: It's the decadent West, stupid! -- History: Other Suicide Killers, Cdn Muslim Blogs' Stupidity? Mis-or-Dis-information?

The suicide phenomenon--Historical remedies

We in the West must reactivate our memories of past suicide attacks and learn how we came to terms with them. Difficult, I realize when many of today's university students identify the Great War as that in Vietnam. Long before our current jihadi monsters, we had the Japanese to contend with during WW11. As the allies pushed towards Japan, they encountered a string of suicidal oppositions. Besides the kamikazi planes, the casualty figures for the attacks on Iwo Jima, Saipan, and "bloody" Tarawa bore out the fanatical resistence that the Americans would face. "Death before dishonour" was the Bushido code. That code somehow allowed the Japanese to ruthlessly murder innocent Filippino civilians after MacArthur's invasion. Also it didn't stop them from murdering 278 Allied prisoners in their concentration camp at Palawan--they burned them to death. Practically no Japanese soldiers were captured on the islands leading up to the Jpanese mainland. In Saipan and Okinawa there were even large numbers of civilians who committed suicide rather than allow Americans to conquer them. The American death toll in these battles was sobering. Okinawa produced horrendous casualties. Therefore, the prospect of invading Honshu and the other mainline islands meant entailing catastrophic losses. This projection was all part of the American's decision to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They had already firebombed numerous Japanese cities, with higher death tolls than the two atomic bomb targets; yet, Japanese resistence wasn't broken. It was time for drastic, yes, extreme measures. Vaporizing them with two bombs did the trick.

A reasonable person might ask, "What does this have to do with the world-wide Muslim terrorist organization?" Well, the answer is quite simple. If our Western cities become relentless targets for terrorist attacks, costing us not only any sense of security, but enormous economic damage, then the enemy will became revealed in its stark colours of the Islamic "other". Wazirastan, in Pakistan's NW frontier, which despises the West and harbours al-Queda, would be a target for B-12 tough love. Nobody asked whether Dresden held anti-Nazi folk. Iran would not be far behind, as they are a master terrorist supporter and had a former president, Rafsanjani, who openly (and recently) stated, should Iran get nuclear missiles, that Israel would be an immediate target. When told that Israel would possibly destroy most of Iran in retaliation, he said, "That is a price worth paying." He was never admonished for these insane musings; in fact, he was a close contender in the recent elections there. It really doesn't get more bizarre than this does it? So put Iran on the list. Next to Israel, the mullahs hate "the Great Satan" America which would be the one to retaliate. Depending on circumstances, Syria might be a candidate for "shock and awe"--along with the Sunni triangle, of course. Let us not forget Hafez Assad's 1982 lesson in the Syrian city of Ham'a. Nothing like massacring 25,000 fundamentalists in a single stroke to make your point. And eternal peace has reigned in Syria for the last 23 years.

As for the other Islamic states that are middling terrorist supporters, targetted assassinations of their militants, along with severe economic sanctions might bring them around. "You want to regress back to the 7th century? Then let us help you", might be the new Western mantra. Then there is the question of sleeper cells and our absurd refugee policies. Those too, will feel the sword of government righteousness. The Liberals, and their NDP claque will be swept away. Even their ultra-left supporters will change their tune when their own get blown to bits on the way to work; or when extreme adventure travel means getting on any domestic flight. Oh, and smile, because you will be on candid camera on every corner. Meanwhile, you Muslim non-resident immigrant / refugees, don't worry yourselves about bringing in cousin Asif on the family reunification program, because you might be going back to Pakistan, Algeria, Palestine, Morocco, etc. to join him. [Apparently, now you don't even have to be a legal resident before you can do this? Check this one. NJC]

All these speculations might be a dark fantasy, of course. But then there were dark fanasties about what would happen if the fascists of the 30's were not stopped weren't there?

Did Britain's Iraq war support cause the London bonbings?

Let me get my head around this argument. Four British-born Muslim men blew up their fellow citizens, fellow Muslims included, to protest Britain's involvement in Iraq. Therefore, that means that they really believe Saddam and his Baathist goons should still be allowed to murder and torture thousands of Muslim Iraqis. Hence, they support the endless slaughter of Muslim men, women and children to bring their ally's party back to power. Were Saddam and his henchmen still in power, they doubtlessly would be very proud of such tactics. In short, the democratic will of the Iraqi electorate must be silenced. Saddam's million death war against Iran, followed by his invasion of Kuwait, plus his suppression of the Shi'ites must have been a good thing. That he ran a secular state doesn't appear to matter to the jihadis, who have made a marriage of convenience with the deposed Baathists.

The first attempt to destroy the World Trade Center and its destruction in 2001 pre-dated the Iraqi invasion, so they had nothing to do with these attacks. The Bali bombing was payback for the Australians freeing East Timor. In fact, the entire apocalyptic reconquest of Europe and the control by a single Islamic Caliphate has to be ruled out as a cause. "Its Iraq, stupid", is the banner du jour.

However, the more we learn about all the players, and their Pakistani "religious education", the more we glimpse the true face of their motivation. Its the decadent West, stupid! The hatred for the West and its values--abortion, feminism, irreligious hedonism, homosexual marriage, and church-state separation--is the real impetus for their rage. Their desire is to enforce their retrograde beliefs on us. As Tony Blair has stated, "We don't have to imagine what they want to impose on us; we have seen the Taliban's Afganistan." Thus, it is truly a battle, not between civilizations, but rather for civilization. Just as the Romans let down their guard and allowed the barbaric Visigoths, Ostragoths, and the Vandals to settle in their territories, only to see Rome ransacked and its cultural triumphs ravaged by them, so we have allowed malignant elements to settle amongst us. Europe then began a rapid descent into an era we now refer to as the Dark Ages. That is the ultimate aim of the new barbarians, to force us back to at best a twilight zone. Therefore, as the pundits say, we must fight to the death to preserve our precious heritage, because we really have no other choice. We beat back the scourges of Naziism, fascism and communism; we can beat this evil ideology too. So forget any leftist talk of appeasement, accomodation or any other retreat. D-Day is beckoning--embrace it.

What they do not understand about democracies is that, when we have a difference of opinion about anything such as strongly held values, we agree to abide by the decision made in our Parliament, even if we do not like it. That is, if the Parliamentarians have not been coerced--e.g. by the PM--that they are actually able to vote as they and their constituents wish. Even with Chuck Cadman who voted to keep the corrupto$ in power, the reasoning he gave was that he was voting as his constituents wished. We can respect a Parliamentarian who does that, though we might not like the result.

At bottom, Islamists have no concept of democracy; they simply want to conquer, to impose their will upon others. This, we cannot allow. NJC

London: Here we go again

Coincidentally, as I was thinking of writing about some Canadian-Muslim blog sites and their paranoid London bombing scenarios, I caught the news of a new attack. Presumably, the paranoid / propagandists are already cranking out new disinformation about this latest outrage. According to these bloggers the 7/7 bombings were the work of either Scotland Yard or Mossad--that same nasty Israeli crowd that caused 9/11. Wow! You can't beat that for denial. After all, didn't the Russians get away for decades with the idea that the Nazis killed all those thousands of Polish officiers in the Katrina Forest? Perhaps it is not even denial, but a conspiracy theory that plays so well in the Islamic world. Such nonsense would not be so serious, if it were believed only by ignorant peasants, but it crops up even with educated Muslims. Such denial / propaganda is becoming almost as scary as were the bombings themselves. If these bloggers cannot come to terms with these radical Islamic incidents, it suggests that they will never cooperate with authorities to expose other potential perpetrators amongst them here.

This spurious casting about for the "real" perptrators has a famous historical parallel. When the Nazis burned down the Reichstag, they blamed it on the communists and/or the Jews. This gave them an excuse to start their oppression of these "enemy agents". The average German, already indoctrinated by Nazi hate propaganda, came to accept this as plausible. Dachau's opening came soon after that.

The possible motivations for today's attacks are multi-fold. The terrorists have sent a message that they can still strike. They may also want to create a backlash against the British Muslim community, thus insuring more recruits. They will certainly cast a searchlight for the fringe radicals. They might even increase British repudiation of the war in Iraq. However many Britons will disagree with the the idea that Iraq is the major impetus for these attacks. Despise the entire Western value system, the fanatics' Wahhabism, with its puritanical, anti-Western message, has been allowed to fester in mosques and Islamic cultural centers all across the western world -- in Britain more so than in most countries. The authorities have stood aside as these lunatics have openly preached their toxic doctrines. A similar mentality exists here in Canada as CSIS as informed us. Drastic action to stem these poisonous beliefs is necessary now, not when we are finally a victim of them. Yet I have waiting in vain for any response to these latest developments from our "government of infinite restraint".

Please allow me one more observation. If the Iraq situation is a magnet for foreign jihadis to gain paradise by slaughtering Allied troops and massive numbers of Muslims, then what would these fanatics be doing if there were no Iraq war? It is just possible that they would be applying for visas to Canada and the United States. As many of them are not connected to any known terrorist group, there would nothing to stop them doing that. Plus, if they had stayed home in Jordan, Syria, and Saudi Arabia, they might have attacked their own countries' governments. In the case of Saudi Arabia, in particular, I'm sorry they didn't. It is that government's huge suppport for the exportation of the vitriolic Wahhabi sermons, which has ignited these kids' minds. At least in Iraq goodly numbers of these foreign jihadis have been eradicated or captured. In a world of real politik thinking, these governments should be partially funding this Iraqi war.

© Bud Talkinghorn--Thank God for the likes of John Howard, the Australian PM, who immediately called a spade a spade. In Canada, it could be a spade; yet it might be a diamond, or for some, a bleeding heart. Six months after the next election, the Liberal government might set up a commission to analyze the implications of it.

Welcome to DiscoverTheNetwork. This site is a "Guide to the Political Left." It identifies the individuals and organizations that make up the left and also the institutions that fund and sustain it; it maps the paths through which the left exerts its influence on the larger body politic; it defines the left's (often hidden) programmatic agendas and it provides an understanding of its history and ideas. [. . . . ]

The disingenuous tradition of the political left has continued into the present. In the 1960s, the radical organizers of the mass anti-war demonstrations pretended that their only interest was to "Bring the Troops Home," when in fact their agendas embraced a radical menu that was anti-capitalist and welcomed a Communist victory. In the campaign against the war in Iraq, a similar pattern emerged, as the information provided in this database clearly demonstrates (ANTI-WAR).

World War IV: How It Started, What It Means, and Why We Have to Win Norman Podhoretz, Commentary Magazine, September 2004 -- link posted on Canadian Coalition for Democracies by Al Gordon

[. . . . ] But as I will attempt to show, we are only in the very early stages of what promises to be a very long war, and Iraq is only the second front to have been opened in that war: the second scene, so to speak, of the first act of a five-act play. In World War II and then in World War III, we persisted in spite of impatience, discouragement, and opposition for as long as it took to win, and this is exactly what we have been called upon to do today in World War IV.

For today, no less than in those titanic conflicts, we are up against a truly malignant force in radical Islamism and in the states breeding, sheltering, or financing its terrorist armory. This new enemy has already attacked us on our own soil—a feat neither Nazi Germany nor Soviet Russia ever managed to pull off—and openly announces his intention to hit us again, only this time with weapons of infinitely greater and deadlier power than those used on 9/11. His objective is not merely to murder as many of us as possible and to conquer our land. Like the Nazis and Communists before him, he is dedicated to the destruction of everything good for which America stands. It is this, then, that (to paraphrase George W. Bush and a long string of his predecessors, Republican and Democratic alike) we in our turn, no less than the "greatest generation" of the 1940’s and its spiritual progeny of the 1950’s and after, have a responsibility to uphold and are privileged to defend. Religious Extremism: Canadian Imams and the CBC

Canadian imams to condemn terrorism -- Religious edict by 120 spiritual leaders to declare London bombings un-Islamic Posted by Toba on 09:50:08 2005/07/21 -- an article by Marina Jimenez, Globe and Mail, July 21, 05

One statement in the article stood out:

[. . . . ] "Tarek Fatah, with the Muslim Canadian Congress, called the imams' initiative long overdue, and said all Muslims must clearly support a separation of religion and state as a first step to fighting extremism." [. . . . ]

I wonder how CBC just happened upon someone with the idea for curbing Roman Catholicism and others who believe in an exclusionary God -- that they must be curtailed by the thought police? (posted earlier today)

A key item would have to be a ban on claims of exclusivity. It should be unethical for any RRP to claim that theirs was the one true religion and believers in anything else or nothing were doomed to fire and brimstone.

Spreading the idea of extremism around so as not to have to accept extremism in the name of Allah as the problem, perhaps?

Most of us don't really care whether others have a religion with a god who is "exclusive" to them--even if they believe others, as non-believers, are sinners (thoughts)--as long as they don't use that god to practice bloody terrorism and murder on the rest of us -- including those others who have their own "exclusive" god(s) (actions).

Catholicism, Judaism, Protestantism, Buddhism, Hinduism and a few other "isms" preaching a belief in a god or gods in our country have not been the source of world terrorism; it is Islamists who promote jihad among the impressionable young, who talk about nothing higher than dying, causing the death of others, and being rewarded with 70+ houris in Islamic paradise. Barbarism in the name of Allah!

The "peaceful" imams and the enabling fellow cohort had better accept the truth and do something about it before the rest of us do.

Three charged in underground drug tunnel investigation

LYNDEN, Wash. – U.S. authorities have arrested three men in the investigation of a massive underground tunnel connecting the U.S. with Canada discovered near the Whatcom County town of Lynden, Wash., officials said Thursday.

All three men - Francis Devandra Raj, Timothy Woo, and Joseph Valenzuela - were from Surrey, British Columbia and were charged Thursday in a U.S. District Court in Seattle with conspiracy to distribute and import marijuana, said John McKay, U.S. attorney. More charges would likely follow when the suspects appear in court in Seattle at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Secret drug tunnel busted on U.S.-Canada border CTV.ca News Staff

Authorities in the United States have busted a drug-running operation on the border of Washington state and British Columbia that allegedly used an underground tunnel to transport marijuana.

CTV News Vancouver confirmed that RCMP officers were involved in the Wednesday bust, which was led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). Homeland Security is also involved in the investigation. [. . . . ]

The DEA is not providing any further details, but the U.S. Attorney handling the case will speak at a news conference in Seattle this morning. [king5.com]

I have heard a rumour that there are people out there in the world who want to hurt us, even though we are nice tolerant Canadians. If this crazy idea is true then perhaps Mr. Liberal Government could take some steps like, say, finding out what has happened to the 36,000 people who have been ordered deported and who may or may not have left Canada as they were instructed to do. The honour system is great and all, but if you are a dishonourable person it won't have much hold on you.

Resignations fly over Kyoto Bueckert, CNEWS, July 20, 05

OTTAWA (CP) - A team of officials responsible for a key part of the Kyoto implementation plan has been decimated by resignations, raising questions about whether insiders believe the plan can work.

Almost half the members of a team working on a national emissions trading system quit, rather than transfer to Environment Canada from the Department of Natural Resources, officials at the two departments say.

The now-depleted team is responsible for securing the reduction of emissions from 700 companies in mining and manufacturing, oil and gas, and thermal electricity, which account for almost half of Canada's greenhouse emissions.

Somehow, this fits in with all the rest:

* the diminishing of the family as the primary social and socializing unit of the nation; faceless bureaucrats offer to raise your child -- to achieve a state-approved product, I assume.

* the pressure from the state through its control of the media and its state broadcaster to promulgate regulation and control of thought (hate crime) and religion . . . Is it because people might look to something besides the state for a guide to action? (It's coming! See post on religion and the CBC today.)

* the extension of and promotion of an ever-broadening concept of 'rights' through government (in favour of government-sanctioned groups and/or individualsz), appointed activist judges, international agreements . . . with no corresponding concept of the responsibilities of the state toward the citizen nor for the citizen particularly in regard to the practice of democracy and freedom in his nation. There is not a government tightening of national security in the face of mindless madness as we have seen abroad, nor is there concern for victims' rights and the health of the democracy through citizen input.

* the increasing inability of the nation to protect its borders -- all in the name of some bureaucratic notion of 'rights' -- see UN and global governance

Stay tuned for more activist shaping of our society by an all-powerful government. All other institutions will be controlled.

John Reid holds the noose that will be applied to Chretien and Martin but he's on thin ice and needs our help.

Prime Minister, Martin,

Your order to limit Information Commissioner John Reid’s tenure to three months, when the House of Commons voted 277 to 2 in favour of extending his tenure to one full year, appears to be outrageously dictator-like rather than democratic.

There is a dictator in recent history who solidified his iron grip on a nation in exactly this gradual way. Out of respect, I will not mention his name here.

Politically, it will look much better for you and the Liberal Party to respect the 277 to 2 vote and allow Mr. Reid to serve his full one year term rather than try to crush him under the heel of a jackboot.

The French media connection -- Barbara Kay -- Excellent!

The French media connection Barbara Kay, National Post, July 20, 05

Unlike the free press of the U.S. and Britain, French newspapers receive heavy governmental subsidies, and are dominated by powerful, in-all-but-name communist unions. In return for their support, the national dailies toe the party line on sensitive political issues, bruiting French "exceptionalism," and self-censoring their commentary when criticism might prove awkward for either.

This could be about the CBC. In fact, it is the CBC, our Liberal Propaganda Arm, which, like our government leans more toward the views of France and the Arab world.

I have mentioned before Canada's government leaning more toward France in many ways. The same thing is at work with the CBC; its political positions and analyses are more akin to France's, IMHO. Think of its careful, walking on eggshells approach to the Palestinians and terrorism.

French Lies About Iraq -- interview with Hertoghe Nidra Poller, FrontPageMag.com Feb. 19, 04

Journalists didn’t keep a decent professional distance from what was happening. They were more excited by bad news about the offensive than good news. I think they themselves were totally surprised by the outcome, as were the readers. I see three reasons for this. One is the extraordinary anti-Americanism at that time. I think this has a lot to do with the personality of G. W. Bush and his administration. G. W. Bush is the kind of American the French love to hate. Then there is some kind of nostalgia for a time when France was an important player on the international scene. Jacques Chirac and Dominique De Villepin were able to inflame the French nostalgia for that time. And also there is Arabophilia…in a very bad sense of the term. Arabophilia is not a problem in itself but here it is in a bad sense.

It’s nothing new, it’s not just in connection with Iraq; it has to do with the history of France in Algeria. There is more compassion … we see this in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, sometimes there is more compassion for the Palestinian victims than for the Israelis.

Canadian National Public Radio Broadcasts Call for State Control of Religion, Especially Catholicism July 9, 05, LifeSiteNews.com

OTTAWA, July 19, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Just as Senate approaches the final vote on the gay 'marriage' bill, C-38, Canada's national public radio CBC Radio has aired a commentary by a retired professor from the Royal Military College calling for state control over religion, specifically Catholicism. While parliamentarians dismissed warnings by numerous religious leaders and experts that such laws would lead to religious persecution, former professor Bob Ferguson has called for "legislation to regulate the practice of religion."

"Given the inertia of the Catholic Church, perhaps we could encourage reform by changing the environment in which all religions operate," Ferguson began his commentary in measured tones yesterday. "Couldn't we insist that human rights, employment and consumer legislation apply to them as it does other organizations? Then it would be illegal to require a particular marital status as a condition of employment or to exclude women from the priesthood."

Ferguson continued, "Of course the Vatican wouldn't like the changes, but they would come to accept them in time as a fact of life in Canada. Indeed I suspect many clergy would welcome the external pressure."

The former professor pitched his idea as a boon to religious freedom. "We could also help the general cause of religious freedom by introducing a code of moral practice for religions," he said. "They will never achieve unity so why not try for compatibility? Can't religious leaders agree to adjust doctrine so all religions can operate within the code?"

Ferguson, would see religion regulated by provinces in the same way professions are regulated.
"I am an engineer so the model I am thinking about is rather like the provincial acts regulating the practice of engineering," he said. "For example, engineers must have an engineering degree from a recognized university or pass qualification exams. They must have a number of years of practical experience and pass an ethics exam. The different branches: mechanical, electrical, civil and the like have a code of practice that applies to everyone. Why can't religious groups do the same?"

Continuing his comparison Ferguson stated, "I envisage a congress meeting to hammer out a code that would form the basis of legislation to regulate the practice of religion. Like the professional engineers' P.Eng designation, there would then be RRPs (or registered religious practitioners). To carry the analogy to its conclusion, no one could be a religious practitioner without this qualification."
Ferguson also suggests 'obvious' prohibitions on religion including preaching of 'hate'. "I won't try to propose what might be in the new code except for a few obvious things: A key item would have to be a ban on claims of exclusivity. It should be unethical for any RRP to claim that theirs was the one true religion and believers in anything else or nothing were doomed to fire and brimstone. One might also expect prohibition of ritual circumcisions, bans on preaching hate or violence, the regulation of faith healers, protocols for missionary work, etc.," says Ferguson.

The retired professor concluded his comments aired on CBC yesterday morning saying, "Now what is the point of proposing this? I do it because I am worried that the separation between church and state is under threat. Religion is important in our lives, but it can become a danger to society when people claim that the unalterable will of God is the basis for their opinions and actions. Yes religion can be a comfort and a guide, but we cannot take rules from our holy books and apply them to the modern world without democratic debate and due regard for the law."

Lt. Colonel William George Barker--A hero's hero -- Then, there is Ombudsman Yves Cote & Toronto's "Gentility"

Canadian William Barker was a humble Manitoba farm boy who joined the British air corps during World War 1. His skill potential as a future flying ace was recognized almost immediately. By 1917, he had amassed 37 kills and was brought back to Canada as a war hero--and given a commission as a major. He had been given the DSO, the DFC, with two silver bars, the Italian air medal, and the highest French decoration. And of course he was used to pump up war bonds for the government. In early l918 Barker was returned to England, but only as a flight instructor. He was by then far too valuable to lose in combat. Barker was, of course, too headstrong to accept such an anti-climactic position, so demanded that he be allowed to fly in France to "keep my skills up". The military brass gave in and granted him ten days there. For the entire time, the weather grounded his Sopwith Camel, denying him anymore kills. On the final day he was ordered back to England to commence his flight instruction duties; however, as he approached the English Channel he disobeyed orders and flew back into battle.

There he learned that the tactics had indeed changed. As he descended on what he thought was a small squadron of German planes, destroying one, he flew into a lower staggered level of sixty German fighters. They riddled his plane with bullets, wounding his left hand and leg, plus completely shooting off his elbow. Still he managed to shoot down two more Germans; then when he had run out of bullets, he steered his plane headlong into a two-seater, thereby forcing it to go into a tailspin and crash. By sheer will he stayed awake enough to crash his plane behind friendly lines.

Despite disobeying orders, his exploits which were observed by 50,000 Canadian troops on the ground, gave him the Victoria Cross. After the war, he and the other great Canadian ace, Billy Bishop, set up a flying school in Toronto. He married a milllionaire's daughter, developed a drinking problem and, like Buzz Beurling, the greatest Canadian WW11 ace, died while taking off on a new aerial adventure. He was 35. By that time the latest Canadian version of "Who's Who" had dropped his name from their list. Much as Buzz Buerling was never forgiven for being a ruthless aviator, so was Barker. The evidence of elitist Canada's discomfort with true warriors was evident even then. However, the common people remembered and 50,000 people turned out for his funeral. God bless the Wiliam George Barkers.

© Bud Talkinghorn--And God bless Steve Fonyo as well. Another forgotten Canadian hero.

I believe Fonyo offended against political correctness (Did he drink? Or something else?) and of course, he didn't look blue-eyed blonde as the lad who is remembered so fondly, a hero, but surely we have room for more than one? NJC

And then there is . . .

The ghost of Howard Wilson

It turns out that the only man the military brass could find to be the ombudsman for the rank and file soldier is Yves Cote, who used to be the representative counsel for the generals and senior Defense Department staff. Rather like Mr. Shapiro, the so-called Ethic Commissioner, only being able to pick a prominent Liberal law firm to get to the bottom of the Sgro affair. Cote was the council for the senior officers and politicians at the time of the Somalian inquest, which Chretien closed down just as it was about to implicate *** in the scandal. There is not much certainty in life, but the Liberals' never-ending attempts to bamboozle Canadians can be guaranteed.

And I thought Vancouver was the politically correct capital of Canada

Toronto city hall refused to let Nathie Glebova, Miss Universe and a Toronto citizen, appear at the Thai food festival in Nathan Square. This is because the loonie tunes councillors have decreed that "anything that suggests degrading women/men, or sexual stereotyping" must be banned from support. A bikini contest earlier was also banned. However, city hall just loves the annual gay parade and supports it fully, eventhough the parade has nudity--full and semi--guys flashing their asses, and hideous lampooning of womanhood. By the way, isn't indecent exposure against the law, or is that law reserved for heterosexuals only? How do we spell hypocrisy?

Immigration--Fixing the IRB

If the IRB is the problem, then we have some ideas. If it is simply Lieberal vote buying politics as usual, turf the *&$%*&^ ! Is Ms. McLellan getting it yet?

Canadian Gypsy: Who's more ignorant about the threat of terrorism? Canadians? Naw, it's the Liberal government dammit! Monday, July 18 (http://crookedincanada.blogspot.com)

Re: "In my circle I encounter a lot of people who support detaining illegal immigrants, refugees or suspected terrorists for indefinite lengths of time, until they are no longer deemed a threat to national security."

I added this comment which I am cross-posting here.

Bang on! But, I would add to that.

I wouldn't wait and pay for their upkeep at taxpayers' expense until that last national threat bit for how would we know? I would kick them out as soon as they landed with no or false documents. I would add to the group any who prepare or facilitate the use of false documents, those who preach violent hatred in mosques and on the streets (e.g. Hyde Park), or who do not grant women equality (the sharia gang, the "peaceful" ones) -- and that is just for starters.

But, first, my IRB would not be composed of mostly Liberal "appointees" and "stakeholders".
Who do you suppose they will favour?

I think an IRB member should have to have been born here to be on the board -- maybe even include that the member's family must have been resident here for a few generations. It is too important to maintaining democracy and civilization as we have developed it in the West. Too many come here and want to make it into the h***h***s they emanated from. Too harsh? Who cares? It is my homeland, not theirs, until they have paid their dues . . . and paying dues does not mean voting Liberal for bringing in more of the same. FHTR

CNEWS: love this mention of Frost Hits the Rhubarb -- "Covenant of security"

Business as Usual in the UK Rachel Ehrenfeld, FrontPageMag, July 20, 05

While Prime Minister Tony Blair is condoning the “evil ideology” that produced last week’s bombings in London, and acknowledges that, “The extremist propaganda is cleverly aimed at their target audience,” the British allow Islamist publications, such as HAMAS’ Filisteen Almuslima (Muslim Palestine), to be published and distributed from London throughout the world.

You can see this hate-filled publication on its website www.fm-m.com. [. . . . ]

The UK’s new political will to fight Islamist terrorism should not be judged by the additional counter-terror laws they declared, but by their implementation.

Canada: implementation? That might interfere with votes for PM and claque.

SSM: It's official, Next: Affirmative Adoption? Legislation: "Art" or Porn?

It's official: we now have gay marriage

We've already had gay pride in evidence here: this seems to pass muster with Toronto city fathers though it does seem rather phallo-centric to me: I knew these guys were interested in the arts and in decorating -- but street art? Or is it an artistic and public expression of hope that this is what our society will become?

Now, consider this: Leave crown at home, Glebova told -- Toronto mayor apologizes after Miss Universe snubbed

Rules prohibiting events that objectify women -- as well as men -- were created in 1990, at the urging of Marilyn Churley, a city councillor who is now a provincial politician. At the time, Ms. Churley was attempting to block an annual bikini contest from taking place in the square.[. . . . ]

"Sex-ed in school should be about pro-creation...not lifestyle."
Same-sex couple targets school system -- They say it fails to give a positive and accurate portrayal Ian Mulgrew Vancouver Sun

On their first marriage anniversary -- the 34th of the first day they met -- Peter and Murray Corren found themselves at a B.C. Human Rights Tribunal hearing Monday for the latest round of their fight to rid the school system of what they say is systemic sexual discrimination.

After hours of legal arguments about the scope of their long-standing complaint, the two gay men emerged frustrated and angry at what they perceive as the continuing refusal of the B.C. government to "do the right thing." [. . . . ]

I like and admire--perhaps am related to--too many gay individuals and couples to not be bothered by the whole issue of homosexuality and a claim to rights, belief, sin/not sin, acceptance, the slippery slope arguments . . . the whole issue. There is no right answer for everyone. This is one of those divisive social issues where the polity must be able to speak through a referendum. I have already expressed my stance on children and gay adoption . . . but there are always caveats because of individuals I know and like. Still . . .

What Canadians did NOT want was Paul Martin canvassing votes from the homosexual community on the backs of the wishes of the rest of Canadians. I'll take my chances on the electorate allowed a free vote in a refendum, not on coercion of Canadians' representatives by the PMO.

Paul Martin demeans the office as he grasps at anyone and anything for votes. He will pay any amount of your money and your good will to remain in office. Paul Martin has diminished our perceptions of him in office; he has became smaller, not larger, petty in his quest to remain in a chair he does not fit. He will never make a statesman; he has not the long-term best interests of the country nor the family and children at heart. What he has done to democracy will be remembered.

Just how would you prove you had a "legitimate purpose"?

Does anyone else think that this is a "community standards" thing that should be decided by a community? I know what I consider unacceptable for children. So do you. You should be able to decide for your own community.

Are Muslims here to escape the Third World or to re-create it?

Islamo-fascism in Canada--a compendium of viewpoints

The National Post (July 18, 05) is on a tear about Islamic terrorism. Numerous columnists have devoted their energies to examining various aspects of the problem. First up was an article by Hugh Miles and Marco Giannangeli that examines the case of Mr. El-Nashar, the Eygptian chemist, who is thought to be the bomb maker for the London attacks. The Eygptian government appears to be reluctant to extradite him back to Britain, until he is proven guilty. This from a government that routinely imprisons thousands of suspected fundamentalists on the flimiest evidence. Mind you, the western nations are also loathe to extradite Islamic terrorists to Eygpt, even if they had committed attacks there. The writers also show that El-Nashar was once arrested in Eygpt in connection with the Luxor tourist attack that claimed 58 lives and temporarily crippled Eygpt's tourist industry. As well, Sidique Khan, one of the suicide bombers, is connected to a terrorist assassination by another British-Muslim in Israel, and a thwarted attack in London in 2004. Unfortunately, in both cases, he was allowed to be free. MI-5 didn't consider him to be a viable risk. A tragic mistake, that.

Matthew Fisher goes into the root causes of Islamo-fascism. He explains how the thousands of Pakistani madrassas extoll suicide attacks and preach a virulent anti-western message. Fisher has travelled widely through Pakistan and characterizes the madrassas as holding tanks for future jihadis. These 'schools' teach nothing but mindless recitation of the Koran--in Arabic yet, which most students do not understand. The graduation produces hate-filled students who have absolutely no work skills. But then he found the talibs, or teachers, to be equally ignorant of anything beyond their toxic religious beliefs. These madrassas are funded by Gulf Arab states, who desire to export their Wahhabi brand of Islam. It has been proven that three of the London suicide bombers attended these schools. It is estimated that over 3,000 British Muslims have also attended.

Jonathan Kay, the commentary page editor for the National Post, tells of how moderate Canadian Muslim jounalists are being threatened for their views. One said, "I already carry a fatwa on my head from the local nuts in the mosque here." But he went on to state, "But they are cowards under normal circumstances and I won't be intimidated." That our liberal media should show such courage. They rail against the 'anti-progressive' Christian churches, but until the wolf is at their door they have failed miserably to speak out about the retrograde aspects of Islam or the fanatics who preach in some of Canada's mosques. Ironically, today's Globe and Mail's lead article was about some poll that showed 55% of the respondents want SSM. Well, if the Islamo-fascists ever won here, that headline would not appear. In fact, becasue of its relentless liberal stance, the paper would be closed down and the editors flogged in the public square. The left still doesn't get it.

As George Jonas writes, one commentator who did get it was the British parliamentarian, Enoch Powell, who was universally despised by the western left-wing. In 1958, he gave a speech criticizing Britain's policy of mass immigration from the Third World. As a classical Greek scholar, Powell made reference to Virgil's poetic line: "Like the Roman, I see the the river Tiber foaming with much blood." Powell saw that the British culture could not sustain large immigration by people, who not only didn't believe in that culture, but secretly despised it. Instead of nipping this anti-western sentiment in the bud, the government pushed a multicultural policy. This policy, like ours here, encouraged people to keep their cultural values, rather than assimalate. It funded cultural centers such as the one that the terrorist Khan ran. Rather than being a false prophet, Enoch Powell has been shown to be extremely prescient. Thirty-seven years have passed and now one out of eight Londoners is Muslim. Mosques like the infamous one in Finsbury Park have become training grounds for terrorists and the true crazies are allowed to openly preach sedition and murder in Hyde Park. The British political and media elites, who vilified Powell for the remainder of his life, will never admit their disgraceful misjudgement, but you won't hear them mouthing their multicultural platitudes anymore either. As Jonas puts it, "Are (the Muslims) here to escape the Third World, or to recreate it?"

Lorne Gunter tells the Canadian-Muslim community to stop "playing the victim card". He mentions Dr. Sheema Khan, the chair of the Council of American-Islamic Relations-Canada (CAIR-CAN), told the Globe and Mail that "If there is one segment of Canadian society that has lived with the constant fear of terrorist attacks, it is the Canadian Muslims and Arabs." The fact that there has been not one significant harassment incident--let alone a terrorist attack--doesn't seem to affect CAIR-CAN's belief. This is an echo of the Canadian-Islamic Congress spokeswoman on CBC yesterday, who told us we might avoid attack if we stop our war on terrorism. Yes ma'am, just like Western-Europe avoided the Nazi onslaught by their appeasement policies in the 30's. Against a rampant cancer like al-Qaeda, there is not even the option of appeasement, short of total surrender of our civilization. Dr. Khan should be telling us how the moderate segment of Canadian Islam is going to defeat the death cult element that is defaming their religion. They are the ones on the ground, who observe the undercurrent of fanaticism that exists in their mosques and schools. As for the government reaching out to her community, just remember that even before Chretien got around to visiting New York's 9/11 site, he was running around to the mosques "to reaffirm with you that Islam has nothing to do with mass murder", and to proclaim that, "Islam is about peace, about justice and about harmony." Now it is time for the Muslim community to prove his words were true.

Jerusalem on the Jukebox--Playing the same old sad tune

Maybe it time to disabuse ourselves of a Palestinian-Israel peace solution. Even as the Israeli government battles with their own citizens over the removal of the Gaza settlers, Hamas continues to lob over a hundred mortar shells into the settlements. That, despite this removal being (supposedly) a main demand of Hamas. Sharon has maintained that he will not dismantle the settlements under fire, so what exactly is Hamas' game plan? Meanwhile, Abbas and his militia have finally made an effort to control the Hamas bombers, only to see Hamas flex its muscles. It is decision time for Abbas and his Palestinian Authority. If they back down now, they have lost their mandate to rule. A civil war is shaping up.

The Israeli army is now massed on Gaza's border with orders to "not exercise restraint", which sounds quite ominous to me. As the head of Shin Beit has said, "When you see an enemy whose aim in life is to kill you; you reach out and kill him first." There might even be a secret agreement with Abbas to jointly cripple the terrorists. I say "cripple" because there is no way they can be completely destroyed as they have the Gazans' support. As long as Hamas is allowed to control Gaza, there cannot be any security for Israel, or progress for Palestine. In the last few days Israel has killed seven Hamas members, including a major leader. Their next massive assault will make that number seem like target practice. Hamas, which was poised to make electoral inroads, has managed to shoot itself in the foot. As well, the Gazans, who support these fanatical thugs, will find that their already miserable state can be further reduced. Not only will their western aid dry up, but so might their lifeline in Israel's job market. They are digging their own graves, with shovels provided by Hamas.
