$$$, Terrorism, Islam & Islamists

Update: The man shot yesterday by London police was not connected to the latest London bombing; left unexplained was why, when police tried to stop him the man, he fled into the tube station, jumped a turnstile and onto a rail car . . . and so, police acted. Hindsight is so 20/20. This will feed the media and rumour mills, unfortunately.

Faces of the four bombers By Ben Fenton and John Steele, July 23, 05

Editorial: Policing Terror July 23, 05

Both Israeli and Sri Lanka security forces -- who have more experience than any other police and intelligence services in the world with terrorists willing to blow themselves up -- have devised successful protocols for stopping such bombers, especially the Israelis.

In both nations, the military and civilian police have accepted that there are no good choices, so they are instructed to shoot suicide bombers in the commission of their murderous acts. There is no negotiating with someone who has already convinced himself to die for his cause, so delay is surely deadly. [. . . . ]

Michael Coren: Left-leaning hypocrisy July 23, 05

[. . . . ] Quite clearly, we need to distinguish between armed resistance to oppression and the intentional killing of the innocent.
But when the latter is obvious, as with the London mass murders, we cannot hide behind euphemisms.

This is particularly so for the CBC, which for years has used pejorative and judgmental words to describe people who are pro-life, orthodox Christian and conservative. If the words aren't enough, one only has to look at the gestures and listen to the inflection of various anchors and interviewers, to know where they stand. [. . . . ]

[. . . . ] "If you are dealing with someone who might be a suicide bomber, if they remain conscious, they could trigger plastic explosives or whatever device is on them," said Mayor Ken Livingstone. "Therefore, overwhelmingly in these circumstances, it is going to be a shoot-to-kill policy."

Some Muslims and civil libertarians expressed concern . . . .

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair said the shooting was "directly linked" to the investigation.

"The man who was shot was under police observation because he had emerged from a house that was itself under observation because it was linked to the investigation of yesterday's incidents," police said in a statement. "He was then followed by surveillance officers to the station. His clothing and his behaviour at the station added to their suspicions."

There was one report that he had wires protruding from his clothing, also.

One in four Muslims sympathises with motives of terrorists -- "a substantial minority are clearly alienated from modern British society and some are prepared to justify terrorist acts" By Anthony King, July 23, 05, Telegraph (UK)

Six per cent may seem a small proportion but in absolute numbers it amounts to about 100,000 individuals who, if not prepared to carry out terrorist acts, are ready to support those who do.

If these findings are accurate, and they probably are, well over 100,000 British Muslims feel no loyalty whatsoever towards this country.

Would these be considered traitors? The men who blame Britain By George Jones, Political Editor, July 20, 05

Muslims urged to be 'caring citizens' -- or is is "You can guide this government proactively" -- i.e. Get involved in the political process and then change things? Siri Agrell, National Post, July 23, 05

Dr. Mohamed Elmasry addressed more than 1,000 men, women and children at the mosque of the International Muslim Organization in Etobicoke, urging "smart integration" into Canadian society through education, political engagement and the rejection of violence.

"You can guide this government proactively -- you don't have to use violence," he said. . . . .

[. . . . ] Canadian Muslims also have a responsibility to remain engaged in the democratic process.

"We have a democratic deficit in this country ... and it's worse in the Canadian Muslim community," he said. "We are new to democracy and we wonder what is the use?"
After the service, Dr. Elmasry said he believes Muslims in England are isolated within their own country. "Canadian Muslims are in a better position to contribute," he said. "British Muslims were angry about their government's actions. Here, there is a way to express that."

To encourage greater participation within the community -- and especially among young Muslims -- the CIC will be offering courses on Canadian history, law, politics and media. It will also offer scholarships to young Muslims interested in pursuing a university education in journalism, political science, social work and other socially active fields. [. . . . ]

Did you notice these words which might have a positive effect -- or were they missing? "Turn in to police Islamists and imams who preach hatred and violence?" Of course, then Mr. Elmasry would be included since he feels all Jews are worthy of being targeted. (posted by Frost Hits the Rhubarb previously)

Would it be cynical of me to suggest that in teaching Canadian history, et cetera, Mr. Elmasry is going to arm Muslims to become more politically activist in their cause? Perhaps teaching Muslims how to cry "racial profiling"? "Racism"? When he mentions Muslims being in a position "to contribute", I think of PM and his "investments" using Canadians' $$$; that is, it costs everyone except PM.

Islam Holy?
Islam is Holy?

In contemporary Islamic circles, Iran's late Ayatollah is held in high esteen and in fact since his death has assumed a place of honor amongst Muslim notables such as Taymiyya, Wahhab, Muhammed Iqbal, Abu al-Mawdudi, al-Ala, Abu al-Hasan, Sayyid Qutb and Malik Bennabi,

The Ayatollah is renowved for his piety:Khomeini said: "Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious."

Khomeini preached worldwide violent Islamic revolution, thundering that "those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world."

"Why do you only read the Quranic verses of mercy and do not read the verses of killing?" Khomeini challenged fellow clerics in a 1981 speech. "Qu'ran says: kill, imprison! Why are you only clinging to the part that talks about mercy? Mercy is against God." The tyrant also exhorted his followers to "kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all."

Khomeini was fond of quoting the Peaceful Koran:

London: Behind Infidel Lines
Walid Phares, FrontPageMag, July 22, 05

“We have to wait and see if these incidents are terrorism related.” [. . . . ]

On several radio shows during yesterday morning, I compared the current legalistic logic in the terror war with odd statements the British would have never made back during the Blitz of 1940. Let's just imagine after each wave of Nazis bombers, city officials would caution the media from rushing to quick conclusions, saying: We don't know if these were bombs or gas explosions! Or: Let's call them bombers but not Nazis, before we actually show the Swastikas in a courtroom!

[. . . . ] While the West wrestled with this definition “crisis”, the leading commentators in the Arab world were already exploring which Jihadist group was responsible, while, of course, blaming Britain and the US for the attacks. Ironically, there is a mental time zone between London and the Eastern Mediterranean. By the morning, Salafi chat rooms and cyber salons were already celebrating the second “Ghazwa” (raid) of London. Regardless of casualties, the Jihadis were celebrating the “penetration” of the British system: “Lan yanjahu fi darb el mujahideen” (they won't be successful in hitting the Mujahidin, sic) a chatting person lashed out. This was very indicative of the equation: The so-called bombers, failing to achieve mass death, wanted to score a point; that is that they are on the offensive. Meanwhile their infidel enemies were busy reconstructing the evidence. [. . . . ]

Man indicted in phony ID papers scheme Jerry Seper, July 22, 05, Washington Times

A Mexican citizen has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Colorado in a multimillion dollar scheme that saw the distribution of millions of phony identification documents -- including Social Security cards and driver's licenses -- to illegal aliens throughout the United States.

[. . . . ] He said investigators identified Castorena-Ibarra as the ringleader and later discovered he was operating through associates in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Winston-Salem, N.C., Lincoln, Neb., Des Moines, Iowa, Albuquerque, N.M., and Denver.
