Are Muslims here to escape the Third World or to re-create it?

Islamo-fascism in Canada--a compendium of viewpoints

The National Post (July 18, 05) is on a tear about Islamic terrorism. Numerous columnists have devoted their energies to examining various aspects of the problem. First up was an article by Hugh Miles and Marco Giannangeli that examines the case of Mr. El-Nashar, the Eygptian chemist, who is thought to be the bomb maker for the London attacks. The Eygptian government appears to be reluctant to extradite him back to Britain, until he is proven guilty. This from a government that routinely imprisons thousands of suspected fundamentalists on the flimiest evidence. Mind you, the western nations are also loathe to extradite Islamic terrorists to Eygpt, even if they had committed attacks there. The writers also show that El-Nashar was once arrested in Eygpt in connection with the Luxor tourist attack that claimed 58 lives and temporarily crippled Eygpt's tourist industry. As well, Sidique Khan, one of the suicide bombers, is connected to a terrorist assassination by another British-Muslim in Israel, and a thwarted attack in London in 2004. Unfortunately, in both cases, he was allowed to be free. MI-5 didn't consider him to be a viable risk. A tragic mistake, that.

Matthew Fisher goes into the root causes of Islamo-fascism. He explains how the thousands of Pakistani madrassas extoll suicide attacks and preach a virulent anti-western message. Fisher has travelled widely through Pakistan and characterizes the madrassas as holding tanks for future jihadis. These 'schools' teach nothing but mindless recitation of the Koran--in Arabic yet, which most students do not understand. The graduation produces hate-filled students who have absolutely no work skills. But then he found the talibs, or teachers, to be equally ignorant of anything beyond their toxic religious beliefs. These madrassas are funded by Gulf Arab states, who desire to export their Wahhabi brand of Islam. It has been proven that three of the London suicide bombers attended these schools. It is estimated that over 3,000 British Muslims have also attended.

Jonathan Kay, the commentary page editor for the National Post, tells of how moderate Canadian Muslim jounalists are being threatened for their views. One said, "I already carry a fatwa on my head from the local nuts in the mosque here." But he went on to state, "But they are cowards under normal circumstances and I won't be intimidated." That our liberal media should show such courage. They rail against the 'anti-progressive' Christian churches, but until the wolf is at their door they have failed miserably to speak out about the retrograde aspects of Islam or the fanatics who preach in some of Canada's mosques. Ironically, today's Globe and Mail's lead article was about some poll that showed 55% of the respondents want SSM. Well, if the Islamo-fascists ever won here, that headline would not appear. In fact, becasue of its relentless liberal stance, the paper would be closed down and the editors flogged in the public square. The left still doesn't get it.

As George Jonas writes, one commentator who did get it was the British parliamentarian, Enoch Powell, who was universally despised by the western left-wing. In 1958, he gave a speech criticizing Britain's policy of mass immigration from the Third World. As a classical Greek scholar, Powell made reference to Virgil's poetic line: "Like the Roman, I see the the river Tiber foaming with much blood." Powell saw that the British culture could not sustain large immigration by people, who not only didn't believe in that culture, but secretly despised it. Instead of nipping this anti-western sentiment in the bud, the government pushed a multicultural policy. This policy, like ours here, encouraged people to keep their cultural values, rather than assimalate. It funded cultural centers such as the one that the terrorist Khan ran. Rather than being a false prophet, Enoch Powell has been shown to be extremely prescient. Thirty-seven years have passed and now one out of eight Londoners is Muslim. Mosques like the infamous one in Finsbury Park have become training grounds for terrorists and the true crazies are allowed to openly preach sedition and murder in Hyde Park. The British political and media elites, who vilified Powell for the remainder of his life, will never admit their disgraceful misjudgement, but you won't hear them mouthing their multicultural platitudes anymore either. As Jonas puts it, "Are (the Muslims) here to escape the Third World, or to recreate it?"

Lorne Gunter tells the Canadian-Muslim community to stop "playing the victim card". He mentions Dr. Sheema Khan, the chair of the Council of American-Islamic Relations-Canada (CAIR-CAN), told the Globe and Mail that "If there is one segment of Canadian society that has lived with the constant fear of terrorist attacks, it is the Canadian Muslims and Arabs." The fact that there has been not one significant harassment incident--let alone a terrorist attack--doesn't seem to affect CAIR-CAN's belief. This is an echo of the Canadian-Islamic Congress spokeswoman on CBC yesterday, who told us we might avoid attack if we stop our war on terrorism. Yes ma'am, just like Western-Europe avoided the Nazi onslaught by their appeasement policies in the 30's. Against a rampant cancer like al-Qaeda, there is not even the option of appeasement, short of total surrender of our civilization. Dr. Khan should be telling us how the moderate segment of Canadian Islam is going to defeat the death cult element that is defaming their religion. They are the ones on the ground, who observe the undercurrent of fanaticism that exists in their mosques and schools. As for the government reaching out to her community, just remember that even before Chretien got around to visiting New York's 9/11 site, he was running around to the mosques "to reaffirm with you that Islam has nothing to do with mass murder", and to proclaim that, "Islam is about peace, about justice and about harmony." Now it is time for the Muslim community to prove his words were true.

Jerusalem on the Jukebox--Playing the same old sad tune

Maybe it time to disabuse ourselves of a Palestinian-Israel peace solution. Even as the Israeli government battles with their own citizens over the removal of the Gaza settlers, Hamas continues to lob over a hundred mortar shells into the settlements. That, despite this removal being (supposedly) a main demand of Hamas. Sharon has maintained that he will not dismantle the settlements under fire, so what exactly is Hamas' game plan? Meanwhile, Abbas and his militia have finally made an effort to control the Hamas bombers, only to see Hamas flex its muscles. It is decision time for Abbas and his Palestinian Authority. If they back down now, they have lost their mandate to rule. A civil war is shaping up.

The Israeli army is now massed on Gaza's border with orders to "not exercise restraint", which sounds quite ominous to me. As the head of Shin Beit has said, "When you see an enemy whose aim in life is to kill you; you reach out and kill him first." There might even be a secret agreement with Abbas to jointly cripple the terrorists. I say "cripple" because there is no way they can be completely destroyed as they have the Gazans' support. As long as Hamas is allowed to control Gaza, there cannot be any security for Israel, or progress for Palestine. In the last few days Israel has killed seven Hamas members, including a major leader. Their next massive assault will make that number seem like target practice. Hamas, which was poised to make electoral inroads, has managed to shoot itself in the foot. As well, the Gazans, who support these fanatical thugs, will find that their already miserable state can be further reduced. Not only will their western aid dry up, but so might their lifeline in Israel's job market. They are digging their own graves, with shovels provided by Hamas.
