July 8, 2006: Nortel: Is something big on the way?
Lately I have heard of people laid off from Nortel who were given very good lay-off packages, but who had to sign an agreement not to go to work for anyone else for three months -- good reliable workers, by the way, not ones any company would fire. The scuttlebutt is that there is something big in the offing. Would that be more China contracts? See today's Globe and Mail for an article on the Bombardier train operating with essential Nortel communications from China (Is it from Xian? Beijing? I forget.) to Lhasa, Tibet at dizzying heights ... 47 hours of it. A must read -- also why I would never consider taking that train -- for the endless loud radio, if for no other reason.
