Liberals want to waste billions on suboptimal students Shotgun, Jan. 4, 06

This is really good with several comments worth reading from such as Anonologue, [http://anonalogue.blogspot.com/] Charlotte, Canuck Economist, DJ, Justzumgai (always cogent and interesting, meaty -- no website that I know of) and more.

I have updated below the post "Update: BCE, Bud Talkinghorn -&- A Hero Rides into the Dawn of a New Cultural Era -&- Why are we in Afghanistan?" with more information on one of our media giants, BCE, which relates to the a post on giving EI funding to artists -- supported by the arts community which includes the media giants CBC, BCE and others. Toronto Tory produced an informative post and graph on income trusts and insider knowledge re BCE here: Lying as an election tactic: Liberals desperately make up stories to obfuscate

[. . . . ] Winnipeg police had been investigating [Ryan] Insalini and several other men and used telephone wiretaps and covert surveillance to gather much of the evidence against him, Crown attorney Dale Schille said yesterday.

Insalini was caught numerous times talking about his various movements around the same time he was supposed to be a prisoner in his own home. [. . . . ]

Priority: Crime & Criminals or Votes through Pandering?

Is it not passing strange that Liberal government(s) seem to locate massive funds--they're your tax dollars--for advertising and media friends, for artists and for proposed artistic travel and so much more; yet, never are there enough $$$ to fund all levels of police and security officials nor, it may be, to have the manpower needed to monitor those given a break by the justice system, perhaps even to argue that they shouldn't get that break. (I do not know the details of this item, but apparently, this character mentioned above, has played the system exceedingly well.) There are insufficient funds to hire and equip officers to man borders and ports of entry (several posts on this website -- e.g. search CEUDA) -- and so the system moves inexorably on, ad nauseam ad infinitum, and Canadians suffer for government's skewed priorities.

There is mention of a doubling of the art related funds but you might have to check several departments. Start with Heritage and Foreign Affairs. See the budget 2005. Now, there is the EI fund into which working stiffs pay and into which Min. Scott will dip to fund artists who might work very little and whose art may bring in little income. Scott is proposing that those artists be funded by those who work more regularly. For example, fishers/fishermen in certain areas may claim EI benefits after earning something like $2,500 - $4,000 income for the year and he says this would work for artists too. Would this mean that through purchases for art banks, the government could fund its favourites by purchasing a few art pieces which would then allow the artist to go on EI? I don't know but would this program be a legitimate use of EI funds or is this Liberal / Scott pandering for votes?

You may vote for more of the same January 23.
