Gotcha!

Reuters Admits Photo Fraud: Now What About Qana? , Thomas Lifson, August 6th, 2006
americanthinker.com/articles.php?article_id=5737

Stop the pixels! Caught red-handed publishing a fake photo, using PhotoShop or similar program to exaggerate the smoke rising from Beirut after an Israeli air raid, Reuters has withdrawn the picture.

As in the case of the Rathergate memo, credit goes to Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs for devising a means to demonstrate the fraud. According to Charles, the fakery was “crude.” Charles has in the past received an explicit death threat sent from a Reuters IP address. Perhaps a bit more careful screening of employees is in order.

The question arises, who exactly produced this fake photo? One Adnan Hajj received the initial photo credit. And guess what? The same man was one of the photographers at Qana!

Jawa Report has much more, as does Michelle Malkin.
JR is showing other suspicious photos that come from Hajj or someone with a remarkably similar name. [....]

CBC could learn from Reuters: propagandizing confused with reporting

Altered war -- Manipulated photos highlight untruths in Mideast conflict -- The breaches go far deeper than just two photos. , Aug. 8, 06, Licia Corbella, Aug. 8, 06

They say the first casualty of war is Truth. Yesterday, the respected news agency Reuters issued an unprecedented announcement. Essentially, it admitted it unwittingly published propaganda as straight news
[....] The "urgent review" was initiated after numerous examples of staged "rescue" photos were shown on numerous blogs on the Internet including:

http://powerlinblog.com/archives/014919.php and http://eureferendum.blogspot.com/2006/07/milking-it.html and http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/184206.php

Global picture editor Tom Szlukovenyi said: "There is no graver breach of Reuters standards for our photographers than the deliberate manipulation of an image."

Hajj has worked for Reuters from 1993 to 2003 and then again since April 2005.

One has to wonder what other propaganda has been disseminated as straight news by Hajj. [....]

Captain's Quarters: What You Need To Know About Diplomacy And Journalism In War , August 06, 2006
www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt/ganymede.cgi/7729

We have been granted a unique opportunity this morning to see the problem with double standards in diplomacy and journalism in war, especially a war that involves Israel and terrorists. Earlier we recounted the utter idiocy of Reuters in allowing a badly-doctored photograph of Beirut to go out over their wires (all hail Charles Johnson). Now USA Today gives us a report on Hezbollah attacks this morning that shows more than one double standard at work: [....]

CBC's dishonest reporting
www.honestreporting.ca/

CBC's coverage of the Israel-Lebanon crisis has focused disproportionately on two parties: Israeli soldiers and Lebanese victims. Too little of CBC’s coverage shows Israeli victims and Hezbollah terrorists. This distorted coverage inevitably leads viewers to the conclusion, conscious or subconscious, that Israel is the aggressor and the Lebanese are its victims.

CBC TV

CBC's Israel-based reporters focus primarily on Israeli soldiers, tanks and artillery crews, while coverage of death and destruction in Israel has at times consisted of a two-second clip of brushfire. Meanwhile, CBC's Lebanon-based reporters show civilian suffering, but do not show Hezbollah terrorists and rocket-launchers. If they cannot gain access to Hezbollah terrorists, or are not allowed to film them, why not admit that to viewers? [....]

N.Y. group flunks T.O. waterfront -- Adds it to 'Hall of Shame' , Great Cities Initiative, Dave McGinn, National Post, August 04, 2006

[....] The waterfront's main weakness, according to the organization, is that it is dominated by privately owned commercial space. [But, perhaps that was the plan? Who was / were appointed to the group charged with waterfront development? Robert Fung was one, I believe. Check further -- Liberal appointees.]

"Private development has resulted in a barrier of condo high-rises, which blocks the view of the water from the rest of Toronto and creates a psychological barrier for the general public," reads a description of the waterfront on the organization's Web site.

Maurice Strong: No better place to hide from American justice than China, Judi McLeod, August 2, 2006, via CNEWS Forum, gl1800, 8/03/2006 18:07:33

"Maurice must now remain in China (where he is very welcome) to avoid questioning by the FBI and Canadian investigators about the $1 million that Tongsun gave him and which Mo tried to hide in his son Fred's nuclear power company, which now is bankrupt." (Pittsburg Tribune-Review, July 30, 2006.)

Pointing out that Strong is "very welcome" in China is a polite way of saying that he's right at home where overpaid environmental spin doctors have long claimed that Maurice Strong was the only man alive who could see that the United States of America is replaced by Communist China as world superpower.

That's where Mo's sidekick Mikhail Gorbachev....

Police suspect a handful of practising lawyers play an indispensable role in the dealings of Canada's most notorious crime family, protecting sensitive meetings from police scrutiny with their mere presence, and even subscribing to cellphone numbers for mobsters in order to thwart police eavesdropping, a new book reveals.

In fact, according to police, the organization of reputed Mafia don Vito Rizzuto has a special "lawyers' branch" that is considered by police to be "one of its most protected, secretive and valued divisions," the book says.

The revelations, culled from interviews with police sources, classified documents and court filings, are contained in The Sixth Family: The Collapse of the New York Mafia and the Rise of Vito Rizzuto. [....]

The residents had had enough. Maybe residents of Grand Manan got tired of seeing the court system hand out puff-ball sentences to those who were ruining the lives of their children.

Dual Citizenship

A friend received this and passed it on to me. Thanks, J

I am outraged over the behavior of the individuals who have expressed nothing but complaints and whining over the 'bad treatment'.

They claim to be Canadian??? - I hope the Government revokes that Dual Citizenship nonsense.

Make up your mind which citizenship is important to you. 99% of theses people have not lived in Canada for years, They do not pay taxes and contribute nothing to our country. And they have the gall to complain. I wished they would have left their sorry ungrateful butts back in Lebanon where thy belong! - We, the Tax payers should have reason to be upset. Our Tax Dollars have been wasted for this sorry lot!

Thanks for writing and for the compliment. (I get too few, alas.) The reason I note what you write is that you usually write intelligent commentary ... and I agree with you.

I expected brickbats for my AIDS commentary ... but nothing yet. I can't be guilt-tripped by the UN socialists telling the rest of us how to live ... particularly, how much guilt geld we must fork over to that seat of probity, the UN, to be dispensed ... by the ones who set up the UNSCAM for the good of Iraqi children--medical supplies and the like--or their current UN replacements.

Well, donations won't come from me, except to a needy child I can see and help, one who exists within my ken. Then I shall know that my donation has gone to an actual human being in need, not to one of the world's five-star hotels with spa ... or to some African kleptocrat. I do stretch the definition of "needy" a bit to include drunks and fools; you never know ...

Remember the luxury hotel being built in Dubai -- intended as a place of respite for those involved in humanitarian aid / do-good activities ... always on other people's money.
