July 9, 2006: Updated: The bribe? ... preferential access to markets

See update added below. Again, I have found that it is difficult to find my past posts on certain topics. Get the links before they miraculously disappear.

No, No, No! Re-think who are friends are and where our long-term interests lie ... and check the links at the bottom.

China wants nothing less than equity stake in oilsands -- not a good idea, imho Shaun Polczer, CanWest News Service; Calgary Herald, Published: Friday, July 07, 2006

[....] Song Yiwu, vice-president of the China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corporation [CNOGEDC? -- but I think it was formerly known as CNOOC--offshore oil-- of which I have written before -- closely tied to White Rose / Husky / Hutchison Whampoa's Li Ka-shing ***] the international wing of the Chinese National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) told a TD oilsands conference his company is looking to secure a minimum of 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) from Canada as part of his country's efforts to diversify oil supplies from around the globe.

However, he complained that Canadian firms have been reluctant to enter into joint ventures.

"We want to work together," he said, "but to us, it looks like you're not interested." ["Work together" as they did on the AECL reactor? See News Junkie Canada Oct. 24, 2004, Section 5. Search information on theft of a "reactor" design by China / China spies ... Perhaps they improved upon it and you'd never recognize it.]

Rather than simply buy oil, Yiwu said CNPC wants a direct equity stake in a production venture.

"We're looking for a long-term partner," he said. [....]

In exchange, China is offering preferential access to its markets
[....]

CNPC's 200,000-bpd target jibes with a $2.5-billion memorandum of understanding PetroChina International Co. signed with Enbridge Inc. in April of 2005 to backstop the Gateway export link to Kitimat, B.C.

There are more companies mentioned. Do read this and more.

Sure ... China wants a long-term sucker ... I have posted on this before and what getting into bed with China entails ... Check the testimony of ex-RCMP Cpl Robert Read and ex-Foreign Officer Brian McAdam before the security committee of Parliament.

I have posted on this on Frost Hits the Rhubarb, maybe Feb. 2005 and there are articles on Prime Time Crime. What is odd is that I just did a search for these and NOTHING about this and my blog showed in Google--admittedly a quick search ... how strange ... Who have you noticed working in the PC/IT industry in the last few years? ... It makes one wonder. See if you have better luck. Both men testified and their evidence is recorded in Hansard.

Update with links: These were not readily found but ...

I wrote about some whistleblowers here: Robert Read ex-RCMP: "Triads had infested Canada's immigration system" -- "a political silver bullet" -- NATIONAL SECURITY February 15, 2005 in Frost Hits the Rhubarb, week of Feb. 13-19, 05

The Report: 38th PARLIAMENT, 1st SESSION -- Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates -- EVIDENCE: ex-RCMP Corporal Robert Read, ex-foreign service officer, the blunt ex-foreign service officer Brian Adams, Joanna Gualtieri, Canada's expert on whistle-blowing, civil servant Allan Cutler, et cetera, February 3, 2005 -- you may download it.
