Immigration, Internet Privacy & Gov, ACOA-Transfers, Criminality & Root Causes, Media, Music, Book: Bill Sampson

The Canadian government is trying to gain control over our internet privacy--maybe succeeding in making sure authorities? they? who? have access through the ISP's to Canadians' emails -- and maybe more. I do not believe they are concerned about security or they would have done the obvious, protected Canadians by securing the borders and ports, to say nothing of curbing the criminal gangs, drugs and violence with and without guns.

This government is desperate to control all aspects of Canadians' lives. I do not trust them. Do you? Would you buy another used government from them . . . or much else?

"The findings surprised the study's author...a pro-immigration Democrat."

The Myth Of No-Cost Immigrants -- check the graph "On The Dole" investors.com , Nov. 14, 05

[. . . . ] Chief among the government services they were consuming were education and Medicaid.

But wait a minute. Didn't last decade's welfare reform push a lot of immigrants off the dole?

Yes, but the decline in immigrant cash aid and food stamps has not resulted in a significant savings for taxpayers, because it has been almost entirely offset by increases in the cost of providing Medicaid to immigrant households. [. . . . ]

Should we assume something like that would not be the case in Canada? Hasn't our government repeatedly assured us of the value of their immigration program? Of the contribution of immigrants? What does government include when/if they compile statistics? Most of us know that the immigrants who came here years ago have been industrious contributors to the economy, great small businessmen and citizens, but my government has not convinced me that this is the case now. When did it change?

Lack of integrity in government and peripheral areas revealed in the Gomery Inquiry--and so much else--breeds cynicism and disbelief, I suppose . . . "Lack of integrity" does not refer to all the innocent "sainted" one(s) nor to the decent MP's who never made it from the back benches because they're too honourable, I hasten to assure readers . . . only to those whose actions merit it.

Confessions of an Innocent Man : Torture and Survival In a Saudi Prison by William Sampson McClelland & Stewart (October 12, 2005) ISBN: 0771079036

[. . . . ] he was tortured into a confession of responsibility for a wave of car bombings he did not commit. Sometime in that first year, he was sentenced to death in a secret trial. For two and a half years, Sampson was continually subjected to beatings and torture [. . . . ]

William Sampson was working as a marketing consultant in Riyadh at the time of his arrest. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and an MBA from Edinburgh University. The British Court of Appeal recently awarded Sampson and his fellow detainees the landmark right to sue their torturers in Saudi Arabia.

Bush faces crisis...But only in the left's fantasies -- "But none of this matter to the angry left, who seem ever-ready to betray America's interests to the hordes who remain sworn enemies of freedom" Salim Mansur, Nov. 13, 05, Toronto Sun

[. . . . ] Neither facts nor history seem to matter . . . resentment and hate directed at Bush.

[. . . . ] Here it is worthwhile to recall there was no indictment of any sort against Sandy Berger, former president Bill Clinton's national security advisor, who stuffed some secret papers into his socks and walked out of a building holding national security documents. Berger was fined $50,000, probably paid by friends of Clinton. [. . . . ]

Media: "How Many Other Mary Mapes Are Working In The Mainstream Media?" -- Nov. 13, 05

Mary Mapes, the disgraced former CBS producer who was fired over the fake memos CBS was peddling during the election last year, is still out there telling anyone who'll listen that they were legit.

[. . . . ] So in essence, according to Mapes, it's not the responsibility of the media to prove to the public that its stories are true, it's the responsibility of the public to prove that its stories are false to the satisfaction of the media.

[. . . . ] Why does it matter? Because you have to wonder how many other Mary Mapes-types are in the mainstream media just throwing anything out there as long they think it hurts. . . deciding which sources are credible or whether a story based on anonymous sources holds up? [ . . . . ]

Criminality, Guns, Violence -&- Root Causes

Update Re: Liberal posturing fails to get at root causes -- and "The extent of the problem is much greater than "official" figures

Here's an update comment worth noting: The RCMP have been neutered over the years while the government has focused on the public relations of the Musical Ride.................. November 14, 2005, Newsbeat1

[. . . . ] Canada has about 3% of the World GDP so 3% of these figures are much more accurate than the "official" estimates given by the Canadian government-usually in the $15 billion range. Only $180 million identified so far? Why did the government handcuff our revered National Police force??

If the Mayor [Toronto] and Justice Minister are looking for the root causes of the gun violence, it's here- not blaming the Americans. Question -what did they do about it?

Is this the Americans' fault?

Wrong End of a Gun Nov. 14, 05

[. . . . ] Another victim . . . Toronto, and two others are in hospital, after gunfire erupted on Rosethorne Ave. in the Keele and Rogers Road area

[. . . . ] second shocking daylight discharge . . . Driftwood Court. . . shooting. . . . gunshot wounds [. . . . ]

Note: gunfire just . . . "erupted" . . . Is that something like the eruption of a volcano or an earthquake or a tsunami? all born of nature. This eruption has a human component, perhaps drugs and $$$$$? Perhaps a little "dissing"? The term "scum" seems appropriate . . . or would calling the perps that be a hate crime in politically correct Canada?

We must admit there is a problem, call it what it is . . . and then do something to rid Canada of it. Or is this another of those problems solved by doling out lashings of taxpayers' $$$ willy nilly . . . and maybe, just maybe, some will stick to "root causes"--instead of sticking to the Sponsorship / ADSCAM "root causes"? . . . And root out all the evil.
