CEUDA Defends Senate Committee on National Security and Defence , CUSTOMS EXCISE UNION DOUANES ACCISE (CEUDA), OCTOBER 18, 2006 - 12:47 ET

The Senators are still under attack so ...

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 18, 2006) - Senators on the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence came under attack earlier today by CTV reporter Graham Richardson and CTV Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife.

Four Senators and three of their staffers wanted to reach conflict-ridden Afghanistan, as part of a fact-finding mission and to demonstrate Parliamentary support for our mission there, but after having had to wait in Dubai for several days were unsuccessful in reaching Afghanistan.

[....] "From our perspective, this Committee, which is chaired by Senator Colin Kenny, is one of the hardest working committees on the Hill and its work has and continues to serve Canadians exceptionally well. More than half of the Committee's recommendations have been implemented by successive Governments and this has not been by chance or happenstance."

Moran adds, "Any Canadian who, as a result of the CTV report, might become doubtful about the Committee's hard work need only look at the long list of extensive and professionally researched reports the Committee has produced in recent times. If it relates to our collective security and defence, this Committee is on top of it - we should consider ourselves lucky to have their watchful eye on the lookout for us and to be in a position of benefiting from their expertise and dedication while too many other Parliamentary Committees seem content to just go through the motions."
