Louise Arbour

Lysiane Gagnon: Is this a bias I see before me? -- re: Louise Arbour's intemperate comments Globe and Mail, July 31, 2006 -- behind a firewall (you must subscribe)

If Louise Arbour, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, had her druthers, Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt would have been tried as war criminals, since countless civilians were killed by Allied bombing throughout Europe during the Second World War.

This is the eerie conclusion of Ms. Arbour's hasty and somewhat biased intervention in the war in Lebanon. [....]

I heard today that Allan Rock has been removed or left voluntarily (?) his position at the UN. Is Louise Arbour still the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights? Perhaps it is time for someone other than Ms. Arbour to represent Canadians at the UN? Maybe her partisanship and pro-Arab / anti-Israeli leanings--along with the views of the UN itself--are overtaking her ability to see who started this latest round of hostilities, that is, Hezbollah, who fight from behind and among civilians as a normal tactic.
