Early Sunday -&- Late Saturday Quick Tour

Would the Prime Minister have the essential qualification for this?

A major federal department has temporarily banned the hiring of able-bodied white men in an unusual move critics say could spark a backlash against the very disadvantaged groups it is meant to help.

What are PM and Team doing about this?

Counter-terrorism investigators are finding an increasing number of "homegrown" Canadian extremists like those who bombed the London transit system in July, and some have undergone training inside Canada, a new report says.

French Jews are leaving the country in ever-growing numbers, fleeing a wave of anti-Semitism. They are moving to Israel, the U.S., and increasingly, Montreal -- the first of a special three-part series in the NP: "Barricaded in Paris". Do you not see that the anti-Semitism has already been ignited or re-ignited here? Remember U of T and Concordia. Compliments of . . . and when Joe Volpe gets finished with immigration, refugees and re-unification, guess what? . . . . . . . . . .

Voters should be asking Paul Martin, as James Travers put it in the Star article (referenced on this website today) about Immigration Min. Volpe:

why he gave one minister two jobs that should be kept far apart — immigration and political responsibility for Ontario, the province Liberals must hold to keep power?

Andrew Coyne: Will the Tories jump the shark? -- worth reading

Robert Fulford: Mark Steyn opinionmonger who came second in the NP's public intellectual contest. Preston Manning came a respectable fourth. Don Cherry won.

Martin signals economy will be focus of campaign; PM & Team won't be running on their record in these areas.

* their efforts on security: think the laxity of the border, airports and ports, the many reports of problems

* their recognition on behalf of Canadians of the value of whistleblowers: think of the Liberal government's attempt to prevent whistleblowing and to discourage whistleblowers by introducing legislation designed to protect the government -- e.g. exempting key areas so that several important agencies / branches / sections / departments and the like could never ever whistleblow, such as the RCMP -- Take that, Stenhouse and Read!

* their efforts against criminal gang activity and gun crime -- with the gun registry $$$$$$$$$$$ sinkhole -- see links just below

* their belief in freedom and maintaining it: see link on boosting surveillance just below -- ending your assumption of privacy

* their honesty and integrity as a government: remember the promise to axe the GST? to fix the "democratic deficit"? to change the way Parliament works? think of the appointment process for justices.

* their getting to the bottom of the Liberal Sponsorship / Adscam / Sponsorship slush fund scandal: think of the parameters set out for Justice Gomery, omitting certain key and sensitive areas of investigation such as Earnscliffe contracts, grants to CSL while PM was a minister, etc.

Note: Surveillance will be boosted under proposed law

Why do I sense it will be used to facilitate government surveillance of anyone seen as speaking negatively about PM & Team's "integrity", "transparency" and "accountability"?

Brison having a hissy fit--Having stomped out of the Conservative party and into a Liberal cabinet position, having lost the CPC leadership to Stephen Harper, now Brison is making unfounded accusations even though Harper promised his caucus free votes on contentious issues -- same sex marriage, abortion and the like.

[According to Conservative, MP Rajotte] "The party actually explicitly said it would not change any of the abortion legislation at its March convention, so (Brison) is just basically saying things which are absolutely not true."

National Post: Colin Perkel, "Brison attacks Harper as anti-gay" -- Look for the article. I wondered:

Is his new environment in the Liberal Party causing Scott to become shrill and intemperate? Vindictive that people have noted his loyalty quotient? Or is the strain of fronting for the PM causing him to become a bit unhinged? NJC

From the PM/PMO there is much election activity, sound and fury, signifying . . . what?

Standing Committee on Finance Study: Certificate of nomination of Donald McQueen Shaver to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Canada Development Investment Corporation

Prime Minister Paul Martin today welcomed the appointment of Ian Shugart, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister at Health Canada, as chair of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Health Task Force

The work of the APEC Health Task Force includes development and implementation of projects to promote information-sharing and capacity building among APEC’s members, currently meeting in Busan, South Korea, for the APEC Ministerial and Leaders’ Meetings from November 15-19. Recent APEC projects have included: work on pandemic preparedness assessments, establishment of an APEC Emerging Infections Information Network to share information among APEC members on emerging infectious diseases, and workshops examining the challenges of addressing HIV/AIDS in the workplace and among vulnerable populations.

Several countries experiencing the current influenza outbreak are APEC members, including China, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. One new project of the Health Task Force will work toward the establishment of general protocols and systems to help APEC members continue to function in the event of a pandemic. [. . . . ]

We're headed for a pandemic, IMHO.

Pre-election: Canada and Japan unveil new strategy to enhance commerce -- Canada-Japan Economic Framework -- address new and emerging commercial challenges and opportunities.

. . . address new and emerging commercial challenges and opportunities . . . enhance our economic partnership . . . .

The Framework, launched during Prime Minister Martin’s visit to Tokyo in January 2005, reinvigorates existing government-to-government dialogue and lays the groundwork for future cooperation in 15 priority areas – including food safety, investment, customs and social security. The Framework also emphasizes the important role of the private sector in guiding future initiatives.

Plans to consult with the private sector and other key stakeholders

I want to know the areas for co-operation that were not listed. When the PM mentions investment, initiatives, stakeholders, private sector, it isn't the great unwashed he's thinking about, I am guessing. AmI too cynical about Pm and Team?

Mr. Shugart's background?

Mr. Shugart is currently the Senior Assistant Deputy Minister for the Health Policy Branch at Health Canada. He has been an Assistant Deputy Minister at Health Canada since 1999, and served in the former Health Protection Branch as a Visiting Assistant Deputy Minister. He was also the Executive Director of the former Medical Research Council (now the Canadian Institutes of Health Research). Mr. Shugart is a member of the executive board of the World Health Organization (WHO), and chairs the Global Health Security Action Group of the G7 countries plus Mexico.

The following are important to consider before voting:

Curious that they didn't pass an effective whistleblower's law in 12 years? Why not?

Canadians should bookmark this and read it again just before they vote. These conscientious civil servants got turfed for actually doing their job of trying to protect Canadians. It would have been much easier on them if they just looked the other way but they had a conscience, did the right thing but suffered for it,in Canada-heading for banana republic status.Alan Cutler should be receiving the Order of Canada tomorrow if there were any justice, same for RCMP Cpl.Read and others-true canadian patriots.

Why are the Allan Cutlers, Joanna Gualtieris, Brian McAdams and RCMP Cpl. Robert Reads not given more respect by their peers in the federal public service? Why do they lose their jobs or go into early retirement? What could their careers have been like? And why has no one offered repair, restitution and reinstatement? Our whistleblowers - so necessary, as we have seen, even in a democratic society such as Canada - need to be protected by a serious piece of legislation.

All three above came from Newsbeat1, Nov. 17, 05

The above mentioned people's lives have been ruined -- and for what? So Canadians can re-elect more of the same corruption? Read the news for the appointments PM is making, the deals he is trying to set in stone before an election; not only is he dangerous to the long term health of Canada and the Canadian economy, I wonder if he even realizes what he is doing. His sole raison d'etre seems to be staying in the PM's office. What does he really offer but bafflegab?

For example: Most 'threatened' programs are done deals -- despite what the Liberals want you to believe about "a list of programs, payments and projections it claimed would be jeopardized by an early election call."
