First Ministers draft 10-year plan to lift aboriginals -&- Memory Lane

Nov. 3, 05, A5 -- Martin, Scott & the rest have concocted a ten year plan to lift aboriginals -- Stalin was more modest; he had only five year social engineering and economic plans . . . that failed utterly based on this article, "First Ministers draft 10-year plan to lift aboriginals" by Paul Samyn, Winnipeg Free Press, Nov. 3, 05

Search and read the fine print:

* First Nations education system

* First Nations run boards

* Health care blueprint

* First Nations housing authority

* A promise from the PM to "hold First Ministers meetings every two years with aboriginal leaders every two years to review progress in reaching 10-year goal". -- Will these be for transparency and accountability on the part of the chiefs and councils? Would that amount to the same thing as "bought"?

Agreed to:

* Re-think current approaches to housing -- How will that differ? Will each family be able to own its own property or will everything still go through the chiefs and band councils?

* "Possibility of a Metis center of excellence in education and a national Inuit educational resource and research center"

"Closing the gap in K-12 educational attainment between aboriginals and other Canadians by 2016 by respecting aboriginal cultures, traditions and languages" -- Encourage them speak Slavey, Northern Cree, Inuktitut, whatever . . . . Would that be followed by "business" deals? You know, the kind where the planning has all taken place and the northern residents need to be kept happy. . . yes, to get something -- but can we guess who'll plunder the oil and minerals? -- Yes, there will be transport and shipping needed . . . and immigrant workers necessary -- Will they need to be encouraged to settle in the North, Min. Volpe? Call me a cynic.

Note: Search Google for Paul Samyn's article. There are several possibilities; this looked interesting and you may view it as an html file: Canada – aboriginal roundtable, Canada, national+post,+First+Ministers+draft+10-year+plan+to+lift+aboriginals
