A former Islamic terrorist talks--Listen up you leftists!

From a lecture given by a reformed member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad to foreign intelligence agents: The author, Michael Burrows, was the intelligence agent for Canada at the Israeli consulate. He describes the talk given by Ahmad (an alias) about the rationale and goals of the PIJ. In a dispassionate voice Ahmed outlined who the terrorists are and what they want to achieve.

Many, he said, were not the dispossessed, but rather university students from the Palestinian universities. They needed people with brains, as well as dedication. The means of recruiting them were quite sophisicated, but relied primarily on targetting those who had been imbued with the endless anti-Western / anti-Israeli indoctrination from their schools or from their mosques. These were the "true hardcore fanatics". Their goals were to destroy utterly the infidel, whom they were taught to think of in these terms, "In our view, non-Muslims are insects, and it is quite within our rights to rape, steal from, and kill non-Muslims, as we deem fit." He was describing an insular ideology intolerant of any group outside themselves.

As for the leftist groups that blathered on about "root causes" and "solidarity with the oppressed", they were equal targets for elimination. In fact, I suspect, because of their "immoral outlook on sex, abortion and women rights", they would be the first victims selected. The last sentence is my belief, based on his viewpoint of why the infidels must be expunged from existence. Really, who would better qualify for death--maybe after they have outlived their role as useful fools? Hamas, who followed the same lines of reasoning, were only the better known, not the purists. Iran and Hizbollah in Lebanon, and Sudan were the money men for their operations.

Burrows adds this warning after absorbing this chilling message, "Ahmad's lecture taught us that terrorism cannot be eradicated by hugs and goodwill, or even this grievance or that." It is no point arguing that Western policy in the Middle East can change this nihilistic attitude. "Placing the blame for radical extremism on our shoulders is an exercise in self-delusion."

Bud Talkinghorn--If you want a Canadian context to Ahmed's text, just think of the imam from Missisauga, Sheik (See *** below), who told his followers that it is only a question of time before Canada is Islamic. It is only one cool remove from Ahmed's message.

The Hurricane Katrina saga is becoming a tragedy on so many levels

God keep me from hubris. The tragedy unfolding is so enormous that I don't want to play Monday morning quarterback, but something has gone terribly wrong here. How can tens of thousands of people be left stranded in the New Orleans Superdome and the Convention Center with no food or water? The National Guard should have been sent in immediately to bolster the security during the wave of looting and to control the relief supplies. Citizens and reporters are being quoted as saying that practically no official control was seen. I understand that the rescue of the stranded on rooftops and tenements is the first priority, but there has to be greater effort for those stranded in the huge collection areas as well. One sniper shooting at ambulances should not have stopped the evacuation of seriously ill patients from Charity Hospital, for instance.

There is the horrible sense that, because most of the anarchy is caused by a black underbelly of New Orleans, forceful security efforts were being hampered. After every store worth looting had been emptied, and people carjacked, the governor stated that there would be zero tolerance for lawlessness. Still, the overall preparation for this catastrophe has been lacking. Is this what billions in homeland security has amounted to? What a welcome surprise this must be for al-Qaeda who are already making merry about the situation reported by an always helpful to Al Qaeda television, Al-Jazeera, I believe.

New Orleans was a disaster waiting to happen for three hundred years, so why weren't the authorities more on top of this? They knew for days that this monster storm was aimed at the city below sea level and/or at the coast of Mississippi. They should have been waiting on the outskirts, ready to act. Jack Cafferty, of CNN, said that of over 600 emails he received, only a handful thought that the response was adequate. This is a black mark on the president and his administration. The Canadian response has had all the hallmarks of Martin's tepid response to any emergency--think of the sponsorship scandal or the tsunami disaster. Again, it will be the response of individual Canadians to do the decent, humanitarian thing. And in America it will be the same. Truly a sad commentary.
