Paul Martin & Art Eglington, Bombardier's BB Credit Rating & Funding for C-series Regional Jets

Overwhelmed by Liberal hypocrisy -- Paul Martin & Art Eglington

A letter to the editor in the National Post (April 16) exposed how hollow Martin's protestations about influence peddling really are. As he keeps telling us, "there is no room for such behaviour in my party", we are reminded that Martin gave Art Egglington a Senate position, after Egglington had resigned Cabinet over giving his girlfriend a $36,500 contract. I guess Martin had forgotten that little episode when he made the appointment.

Bombardier sells credit unit to GE -- Gets US$1.4B for heart of unit Nicolas Van Praet, Financial Post, Apr. 19, 05

[. . . . ] Standard & Poor's yesterday affirmed Bombardier's credit rating at BB. Its outlook on the company is negative.[. . . . ]

News of the transaction came amid increased concern a snap federal election could wipe out weeks of funding negotiations between Bombardier and the federal government for its new C-series of regional jets.

Bombardier has said in order to deliver the first of those planes by 2010, it has to have a dedicated team of 1,000 workers in place for the project by the end of this year. Right now, it has 400 of those workers.

What happens with the C-series of regional jets which Canadians' tax money will be funnelled to if the Liberals are turfed? Why are the taxpayers of Canada supporting any one particular business? That means making choices about which businesses are allowed to succeed and which allowed to fail. More funding announcements coming up?
