Immigration: Liberals to "spread the benefits of immigration to more regions in Canada"

Why does this government always mention "invest" when it is trying to buy the immigrant vote? I know one immigrant who is furious -- especially if the government sends the violent druggies and drug gang members in his direction -- the ones who, even if deported, simply use fake documentation and return -- obtaining guns along the way.

Do you happen to remember mention of our need for truckers / truck drivers? Well, guess what? The government has been planning to import them from Vietnam. The Vietnamese gangs are vicious here and involved in drug dealing, it seems. (Scroll down for a link for further information.) How many Chinese triad members can our government get in here in time to vote? How many Tamil Tigers would it take to get Mr. Karygiannis re-elected? Maybe Judy Sgro could run again?

Don't hold off on that election.

I am not against immigration; I am against some types of immigrant and the laxity of our refugee system which allows anyone who mouths the word 'refugee' into Canada -- a system whereby our government has allowed into Canada vicious thugs, criminal gang members, violent drug dealers, triad members . . . . you get the idea. We have enough home-grown criminal gangs without importing them.

As for this: "Ottawa will spend $10-million a year for five years to support the education initiatives", why not spend education money on the university students already here? Or would that eliminate the sticky fingers grabbing it on the way through? Do you remember some of the language schools--education, you know--that were diploma mills for immigrants to get the immigrants in? Give Canadians a break.

Ottawa targets immigration Terry Weber, Apr. 18, 05, Globe and Mail

“Canada's immigration system is a model for the world, and today's measures allow us to maintain and enhance our position,” Immigration Minister Joe Volpe said.

Under the plan, reported in Monday's Globe and Mail, Ottawa will invest $69-million over two years to return processing times to an average of 12 months for citizenship papers and four months for a proof of citizenship by 2007-2008.

The changes also mean that citizenship applicants will be exempt from language ability and knowledge-of-Canada tests at age 55, rather than the current 60. [. . . . ]

One poll, at last check, revealed that 71% of Canadians agree that "The refugee system requires a major re-think or adjustment."

Who is to be responsible for the costs of health care for older immigrants?
