#2 Sponsorship Program -- Gomery Inquiry -- Canadian Security -- The Time Has Come When the Frost Hits the Rhubarb

Update: Link colour problem

Links do not always show up in blue; sometimes they are a hardly visible dark wine or rust colour. I have to fix this; it comes with the template.

There is a link to the James D. Harder article (Scroll down for "Juneau"); it just does not show up well. Thanks to the one who pointed this out.

James D. Harder: Canada Targeted by China Agents Insight Magazine online, March 28, 05.

Security and other issues: these posts / links may appear to be really mixed up but this has been a busy day for me. If you check the links and skim the information, you will have much information published on websites that may, or may not, have been published by the mainstream media in Canada. Items are from Hansard or other credible sources. The whole thing adds up to a devastating picture of security and government in Canada -- or the gods have conspired to send me only to sites that produced this compilation.

CFRA: Ottawa -- a diversion -- listen while you work. That was written earlier today when a very lively discussion was happening on the sponsorship scandal. I would suggest you tune in tomorrow morning and see what the topic is. There is a similar type of program at CFRB: NewsTalk 1010 which may have something worth listening to tomorrow morning, as well. They are topical and fast paced.

PQ got kickbacks, too -- EXEC: AD FIRM ALSO PAID GRITS April 6, 2005, Greg Weston, Toronto Sun

A MONTREAL advertising firm that received more than $40 million in AdScam sponsorship contracts paid huge kickbacks to both the federal Liberal party and the Quebec separatists, senior executives of the company have told Sun Media. "I remember seeing the cheques," one former Groupaction executive said of payments to the federal Liberal party in Quebec.

The man spoke on condition that he not be identified until he testifies at the Gomery inquiry sometime over the coming weeks. [. . . . ]

Why include some of the following information? It appears to be credible information with warnings about security. Evidence has been presented to our government for years; it has been ignored.

Most people say they have not the time to read all that is posted. You do not have to. Just skim all of this post to get the idea. Then decide if there is more you should know.

Posts and links that follow are in no particular order; many have links to other material of topical interest.

Evidence: (1550) Mr. Brian McAdam

Mr. Brian McAdam (As Individual): Thank you, Mr. Chairman, for the opportunity to present my views regarding Bill C-11.

When I was appointed a foreign service officer, I never thought as myself as a whistle-blower, I thought I was simply doing my job. I now know that telling the truth about something someone else does not want others to know about is called whistle-blowing.

My 30-year foreign service career ended, taking a huge toll on my health, reputation, and credibility. I wrote and spoke about the negligence and corruption at the Canadian consulate in Hong Kong and the threat that Chinese organized crime groups, known as triads, and the Chinese government posed to Canada. This was actually part of my job description, but I apparently was not supposed to do it. Telling the truth in the Canadian bureaucracy can be career suicide and dangerous.

There is a desperate need for whistle-blowing protection in Canada, but this bill under consideration is fatally flawed. Had this bill existed when I needed it, it simply would not have protected me from the retaliation I experienced, corrected any problems, or vindicated my work. [. . . . ]

Via Kate McMillan of the website Small Dead Animals -- there have been previous posts on this within the last two months on this site and approximately a year ago on News Junkie Canada. James Harder has written about this situation, McAdam and others in the past, as well as just lately.

James D. Harder: Canada Targeted by China Agents Insight Magazine online, March 28, 05.

A controversial classified document that labels the People's Republic of China (PRC) as Canada's greatest national-security threat [. . . . ]

Brian McAdam, a former Canadian immigration-control officer in Hong Kong, is an internationally renowned expert on the Chinese triads - networks of professional criminals dating back to imperial times - and has written scores of sensitive reports on their organization and activities. He watched with alarm as they wove their way into the fabric of the Canadian economy and he played a key role in getting the triad investigation under way. [. . . . ]

[. . . . ] Juneau tells Insight. "What they've learned is that control is not the real power - influence is the real power."

[. . . . ] Jim Abbott, a member of Parliament with the Canadian Alliance [now merged with the PC's to form the Conservative Party of Canada], the official opposition to the ruling Liberals, has read Sidewinder and says the Canadian public would be astounded by the report. "Even if . . . . That may be why backup copies of Sidewinder were ordered shredded, physically removed or electronically deleted.

Insight, however, obtained a copy that slipped through the cracks.

[. . . . ] Meanwhile, McAdam walks a precarious line, . . . . "The problem . . . McAdam tells Insight.

Juneau also is concerned. Having left the CSIS earlier this year to set up his own security firm, he is under a gag order not to detail the classified material, but remains outspoken about his disapproval of the spiking of Sidewinder. [. . . . ]

defending liberty -- Being American in T.O.

Apr. 5 - I finally and completely understand why Canada has not produced a Dr. King or a Henry David Thoreau. Every blogger up here has only one decision to make: will you fight for liberty? This is an act of civil disobedience, not armed insurrection, [. . . . ]

A change in government will be fruitless unless there are substantial changes in the way the patronage system is allowed to bleed taxpayers by rewarding favours with government positions and civil service reforms are enacted. [. . . . ]

Absolutely! It must start with crafting and passing effective whistleblower legislation so that each decent employee who comes forward with information in order to do his/her job correctly will not lose livelihood, reputation, friends, position and perhaps, more.

Time constraints are a problem so please note that there may be duplicate link entries here; if so, my apologies. Just skip them. There is one link error and possibly there are more. I have indicated what to do, besides including the corrected link to save time.

Whenever you link from some webpage and it doesn't work, you may find that the link has developed an added [< / AND br>]. (Amazing how those things happened, even after I had checked that they were all correct when posted. NJC)

Copy the link and remove the extra [ %3Cbr%20/%3E ] which creates the problem.

Interestingly, just about every time there was a post of extreme importance and interest to Canadians, things happened to the links.

Gomery Inquiry:

It was the hearings before the Public Accounts Committee which led, eventually, to the Gomery Inquiry.

Official accounts of some of last year's Public Accounts committee's hearings are on the government of Canada website, as "evidence" presented before the "Standing Committee on Public Accounts", a committee of the Canadian Parliament (Error corrected Apr. 5, 05: I had used the term "Hansard" to cover the committee evidence reports.)

(David Hawkins, Foundation Scholar-Cambridge University, and founder of the Citizen's Association of Forensic Economists at Hawks’ CAFE, and CFP investigative journalist Judi McLeod, have teamed up to write a series of articles on the UN’s radical socialist agenda executed across Intranets and virtual private networks, operated by the self-styled "Global Custodians". A new feature of Canada Free Press, the ongoing series combines McLeod’s investigative experience and communication skills with Hawkins’ brilliant research linking $40 trillion hedge funds, via an online portal on the 79th floor of One World Trade Center, to "disruptive technologies" developed by Canada for alleged use in the UN Oil-for-Food scam, 9/11 and Kyoto fraud.)
